This is a contract-to-hire position.

Hybrid onsite/remote with minimal onsite. All hires MUST currently live in the Columbus, Ohio region.


About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Cloud Data Engineer to support enterprise data modernization initiatives for a major healthcare system. This is a contract-to-hire opportunity for a senior-level engineer skilled in building cloud-based data solutions using Azure, Databricks, Microsoft Fabric, and modern data engineering frameworks. Candidates must have strong hands-on expertise developing ETL/ELT pipelines, data models, AI/ML pipelines, and data governance frameworks including Unity Catalog and Purview.

This role requires working onsite in Columbus, Ohio on a hybrid schedule. Candidates must reside within the region or be willing to relocate.


Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable cloud-based data engineering solutions within Azure.

  • Develop ETL/ELT data pipelines for ingestion, transformation, and processing of large datasets.

  • Architect and optimize data lakehouse and data warehouse solutions using Databricks and Microsoft Fabric.

  • Build and support AI/ML data pipelines, enabling advanced analytics and machine learning use cases.

  • Implement and manage data governance and cataloging using Unity Catalog and Microsoft Purview.

  • Develop robust data models, schemas, and structures supporting analytics, BI, and reporting.

  • Collaborate with data architects, analysts, and engineering teams to deliver enterprise-grade solutions.

  • Ensure high standards of data quality, security, and compliance across platforms.

  • Troubleshoot and optimize data systems for performance, scalability, and reliability.


Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years overall IT experience in software, data, or cloud engineering.

  • 5+ years hands-on experience as a Cloud Data Engineer specializing in:

    • Azure Data Engineering

    • Databricks (Delta Lake, Delta Live Tables, notebooks, workflows)

    • Microsoft Fabric

  • Proven experience building ETL/ELT pipelines at scale.

  • Strong background in data modeling, data architecture, and structured/unstructured data processing.

  • Experience developing AI/ML pipelines and supporting data for machine learning workflows.

  • Hands-on experience with Unity Catalog and Microsoft Purview for data governance.

  • Ability to work in hybrid on-site environment in Columbus, OH.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Azure certifications such as:

    • DP-203 (Data Engineer Associate)

    • AZ-900, AZ-104, AZ-305, or related

  • Experience working within healthcare or regulated industries.

  • Familiarity with DevOps pipelines (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions), CI/CD, and automation.

  • No sponsorship or C2C arrangements available.


Hybrid Work Expectations

  • Must be based in the Columbus, OH region, or willing to relocate prior to start.

  • Onsite presence required several days per week.
