Job Description

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Ensure that all HPSI safety procedures, rules and regulations are communicated, understood, and followed.

Design Coordination
  • Review and approve control and instrumentation system deliverables (control narratives, diagrams, loop drawings, alarm & monitoring philosophies, panel layouts, etc.) prepared by overseas design partners.
  • Verify designs for compliance with shipyard standards, U.S. regulatory bodies (USCG, ABS, IMO, SOLAS), and project specifications.
  • Provide design feedback, redlines, and review comments to Korean counterparts and vendors.
  • Develop test procedures for assigned systems.
  • Assigned systems to include, but not limited to, Integrated Control & Monitoring System, Fire Detection & General Alarms, Alarm Signaling Systems.

Vendor & Stakeholder Interface
  • Prepare technical specifications & evaluate vendor technical documentation and equipment submittals for suitability and integration into vessel systems.
  • Maintain and update makers lists and coordinate technical clarifications with vendors and Korean designers.
  • Participate in technical meetings with Owner, Class, and regulators to resolve technical system issues.

Support to Production
  • Translate reviewed designs into practical support for Procurement, Planning, and Production (e.g., confirming equipment selections, installation details, and testing requirements).
  • Provide timely technical clarifications during fabrication, installation, and commissioning.
  • Support troubleshooting during inspections, dock/sea trials, and Class/owner witnessing.

Governance & Compliance
  • Maintain working knowledge and monitor development of applicable classification and regulatory rules and requirements pertaining to assigned systems.
  • Ensure all reviewed designs align with both international standards and Hanwha Philly s build practices.
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILTY

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor s degree in Electrical Engineering preferred; however, candidates with a technical diploma and 10+ years of relevant shipbuilding design and/or construction may be considered.
  • Minimum 5 years Control & Instrumentation specialization experience in shipbuilding or related industries.
  • Knowledge/experience concerning basic/detail ship design and shipbuilding practices.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and CAD software; such as AutoCAD & Navisworks.
  • Strong working knowledge of Classification Society & other regulatory body rules/requirements (i.e. ABS/DNV, USCG, IMO/SOLAS, etc.).
  • International collaboration experience highly valued (e.g., working with Korean, European, or Asian shipyards).


WORK ENVIRONMENT

Environmental exposures are similar to those found in most heavy industrial settings and may include noise, heat, cold, vibration, dust, fumes and smoke. Work may be executed indoors or outdoors and may involve exposure to inclement weather conditions.
