Job Description:

General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT) is seeking a motivated transitioning service member to join our Enterprise Zero Trust Program as a Cybersecurity Architect Fellow supporting a Department of Defense (DoD) customer. GDIT is a leading systems integrator in Zero Trust Defense, delivering innovative cybersecurity solutions that protect mission-critical systems and data. This rapidly growing program offers hands-on experience supporting a modern Zero Trust architecture that directly impacts national security.

In this role, you will work alongside senior architects and engineers to help define, implement, integrate, and secure Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) technologies aligned with DoD Zero Trust Architecture. You will support the migration of legacy applications into a secure Zero Trust environment while gaining practical experience across cybersecurity architecture, automation, and compliance. As a Cybersecurity Architect Fellow, you will play a key role in enabling secure DoD missions while building advanced technical skills to support your transition into a civilian cybersecurity architecture or engineering career. This SkillBridge Fellowship provides meaningful, hands-on experience and mentorship, with strong potential for conversion into a full-time position with GDIT upon successful completion.

HOW THE CYBERSECURITY ARCHITECT FELLOW WILL MAKE AN IMPACT:
  • Contribute to the definition, refinement, and implementation of enterprise Zero Trust Architecture in alignment with the DoD Zero Trust Execution Roadmap, under the guidance of senior architects.
  • Assist in designing and documenting the interconnectivity of Zero Trust technologies, including system components, interfaces, and integrations with enterprise applications and services.
  • Participate in the migration of legacy applications and services to a Zero Trust network architecture.
  • Support the selection, deployment, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Zero Trust-related COTS technologies, including identity providers, multi-factor authentication, privileged access management, endpoint protection, SIEM/SOAR, and software-defined compute, networking, and storage solutions.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity, platform, and application teams to ensure systems meet DoD security, regulatory, and compliance requirements, including RMF, ATO, and DoD STIG standards.
  • Identify, document, and assist in resolving software, configuration, and integration issues across the Zero Trust ecosystem.
  • Develop and maintain architecture diagrams, design artifacts, and technical documentation required for system design, implementation, deployment, integration, and accreditation activities.
  • Work directly with government stakeholders, application owners, and mission partners to understand operational requirements and help propose Zero Trust-aligned solutions.
  • Apply automation and scripting to improve deployment consistency, security posture, and operational efficiency, demonstrating a strong bias for automation.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO SUCCEED:

Required Education, Skills, and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, or a related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education, military training, and experience.
  • 6+ years of relevant experience in cybersecurity engineering, systems integration, application deployment, configuration, maintenance, or related disciplines within DoD or enterprise environments. Relevant military experience is fully applicable.
  • Experience deploying systems and applications in highly distributed or enterprise environments.
  • Experience supporting DoD cybersecurity processes, including Risk Management Framework (RMF), Authority to Operate (ATO), and implementation of DoD STIG requirements.
  • Working knowledge of Zero Trust Architecture principles and their application in enterprise environments.
  • Experience supporting applications running on Windows and Linux platforms, with exposure to cloud or hybrid environments.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively in a mission-driven environment where priorities may shift based on operational needs.
  • Proven time management skills, self-direction, and professional accountability.
  • Must possess an active Secret security clearance.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.

Preferred Skills and Experience:
  • Experience with the DoD Zero Trust Architecture model and alignment with the DoD Zero Trust Execution Roadmap.
  • Experience implementing, configuring, integrating, and securing Zero Trust capabilities and supporting software, such as identity providers, MFA, PAM, unified endpoint management, inventory systems, SIEM/SOAR, and software-defined compute, networking, and storage.
  • Experience integrating Zero Trust technologies with applications, external services, and other cybersecurity tools.
  • Experience with automation and configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Chef).
  • Experience with on-premises, cloud, and hybrid deployment models.
  • Experience with containerization platforms such as Kubernetes, Docker, OpenShift, Tanzu, or similar.
  • Familiarity with one or more programming or scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell, Java).
  • DoD 8570 IAT Level III certification (or ability to obtain).
  • Knowledge of software acceptance testing processes.

DoD SkillBridge Eligibility:
  • Has served at least 180 days on active duty
  • Can participate within the last 6 months of separation or retirement
  • Will receive an honorable discharge
  • Has taken any service TAP/TGPS
  • Has attended or participated in an ethics brief within the last 12 months

Received Unit Commander (first O-4/Field Grade commander in chain of command) written authorization and approval to participate in DoD SkillBridge Program prior to start of the fellowship.
