Job Description:
Data / System Analyst
Location: Spring, TX (fully onsite)
Contract: 6 months+
Data & System Analyst to support the production forecasting application and analytics. This role requires strong expertise in data analysis, business analysis, SQL, Power BI, Spotfire, and familiarity with the Oil & Gas industry.
The successful candidate will be a power user of critical internal systems and tools, responsible not only for generating actionable insights through data but also for supporting users, gathering requirements, and ensuring business continuity. You will serve as a key link between system lead, users, developers, and business stakeholders - running analyses, diagnosing data issues, and improving tool usability and adoption.
Responsibilities:
Data Analysis & Visualization
Analyze oil and gas production data (especially unconventional) to generate systematic results.
Use SQL to query and validate large datasets; troubleshoot and investigate data issues in both input and output.
Develop and maintain reports and dashboards using Power BI and Spotfire to support forecasting, budgeting, and performance monitoring.
Validate data against engineering and operational logic; provide clear feedback to users and stakeholders.
System Analysis & User Support
Serve as a power user and subject matter expert for custom internal tools and applications.
Provide end-user support and training on system functionalities, best practices, and workflows.
Collaborate with Product Owners and the Technical Development Team to translate user needs into functional requirements and actionable system enhancements.
Create and maintain high-quality documentation, including user stories, use cases, workflows, test cases, and support guides.
Triage user support and enhancement requests; resolve or escalate appropriately.
Requirements Gathering & Continuous Improvement
Partner with end-users to gather, analyze, and document business requirements for forecasting, scheduling, and budgeting systems.
Participate in solution design, ensuring business needs are aligned with existing system architecture and standards.
Monitor system performance and user feedback to recommend improvements and contribute to ongoing system optimization.
Required Skills and Experience:
5+ years of experience in data analysis, business analysis, or systems support roles.
Strong experience in SQL/PLSQL, SSMS, and data querying tools.
Proficient in Power BI and Spotfire for building and maintaining dashboards.
Experience in unconventional oil & gas operations is required.
Deep understanding of oil & gas data types such as stream types, production volumes, scheduling, budgeting, and forecasting metrics.
Demonstrated ability to run analytical applications, validate results, and investigate discrepancies in data.
Strong analytical, logical thinking, and problem-solving capabilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiar with the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Agile/Scrum methodologies.
Experience supporting or acting as a power user for custom enterprise software platforms.
Background in oil & gas budgeting, scheduling, accounting, and production operations.
Ability to create clear, concise documentation and training materials.
Skilled in facilitating meetings and translating business needs to technical teams.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills for engaging with cross-functional teams.
Other Requirements:
Must be onsite 5 days/week; this is a hands-on, collaborative role.
Must be proactive, engaged, and willing to learn oil & gas domain knowledge.
