Role :- Data Engineer with DB2 DBA & PostgreSQL Location :- McLean, VA (5 Days Onsite)
Job Description:
We are looking for an experienced Data Engineer with a strong analytical focus to lead the migration of a large monolithic database from DB2 to PostgreSQL. This role requires a deep understanding of database architecture, data analysis, and the ability to work with complex systems that interact with multiple APIs and applications. The successful candidate will have extensive experience in database analysis and migration, with a particular emphasis on understanding and optimizing existing database components.
Key Responsibilities:
Database Analysis:
o Conduct a thorough analysis of the existing DB2 database to understand its structure, components, and dependencies.
o Identify and document data flows, relationships, and integration points with APIs and applications.
o Evaluate the performance and scalability of the current database architecture.
Migration Strategy Development:
o Develop a comprehensive migration strategy that minimizes risks and ensures data integrity.
o Design data mapping and transformation processes to facilitate the transition from DB2 to PostgreSQL.
o Collaborate with stakeholders to address any potential impacts on connected systems.
Integration and Testing:
o Work closely with development teams to ensure seamless integration of the new PostgreSQL database with existing APIs and applications.
o Develop and execute test plans to validate data accuracy and system functionality post-migration.
Optimization and Performance Tuning:
o Analyze the performance of the PostgreSQL database and implement optimization techniques.
o Utilize indexing, partitioning, and other strategies to improve database efficiency and response times.
Qualifications:
Bachelor s or Master s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
Extensive experience with DB2 and PostgreSQL databases, including analysis, design, and administration.
Proven track record in analyzing and migrating large-scale databases.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to understand complex data structures and relationships.
Experience with API integration and application development.
Excellent communication and documentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with database migration tools and methodologies.
Experience in performance tuning and optimization of PostgreSQL databases.
Knowledge of data governance and compliance standards.
