Data Engineer SME

Modern Technology Solutions, Inc. (MTSI) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Data Engineer Subject Matter Expert (SME)to support an advanced air platform program. Responsibilities

• Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for data software engineering initiatives supporting advanced air platform capabilities.
• Design, develop, and integrate high-performance data systems and software architectures to optimize platform analytics, operations, and decision-making processes.
• Lead efforts to process, manage, and analyze large-scale datasets, enabling real-time decision support for advanced military systems.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including systems engineers, platform developers, and mission analysts, to ensure seamless data integration and software functionality within air platforms.
• Develop efficient ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) pipelines, enabling the secure and reliable movement of data across cloud, on-prem, and platform-based systems
• Design and implement machine learning models, analytics algorithms, and applications that enhance platform intelligence and autonomy capabilities.
• Troubleshoot complex software and data architecture issues to ensure the reliability and scalability required for mission success.
• Research, test, and deploy emerging technologies in AI, ML, and advanced data processing to maintain competitive advantages in platform capability development.
• Document best practices, workflows, and technical specifications to support program knowledge transfer and growth.

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a related technical field.
• Minimum of 10+ years of hands-on experience in software engineering, data systems development, and/or analytics for defense, aerospace, or related industries.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, C++, or MATLAB.
• Expertise in designing data software solutions for distributed systems, real-time analytics, and cloud-based platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
• Demonstrated experience with data engineering pipelines (ETL), database development (SQL/NoSQL), and tools such as Apache Spark, Hadoop, or Kafka.
• Knowledge of AI/ML techniques and their application to tactical and strategic defense systems.
• Must possess an active Top Secret clearance with eligibility for SCI.

Desired

• Advanced degrees (MS/PhD) preferred with 12+ years in software engineering, data systems development, and/or analytics for defense, aerospace, or related industries.
• Familiarity with advanced air platform systems, including avionics, mission planning, or operational data systems.
• Experience integrating software solutions with systems engineering workflows for defense programs.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and team collaboration skills with the ability to present complex concepts to various stakeholders.
• Prior experience interfacing with government and military customers, delivering solutions aligned with program goals and requirements.
