Role: Business Consulting-Data Modeler

Duration:- 8 Months

Location:- Chicago, IL - Onsite

Description:

Data Modeler to lead the adoption and implementation of a modern data modeling tool within Snowflake Data Warehouse environment supporting client Commercial Aesthetics business. The primary responsibility for this role is to reverse-engineer all existing databases into the new modeling platform and enrich models by adding comprehensive metadata and clear business descriptions. This position is essential in transforming fragmented and undocumented environments into well-documented, standardized, and business-aligned data assets.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead the implementation and configuration of a modern data modeling tool for the Snowflake Data Warehouse platform.

Reverse-engineer existing database structures (tables, views, relationships, and processes) into the new modeling environment, ensuring an accurate reflection of the current architecture.

Systematically add missing metadata, such as data definitions, lineage, and technical attributes, for all relevant objects.

Collaborate with business stakeholders and subject matter experts to collect, validate, and document comprehensive business descriptions and definitions for all data assets.

Develop, maintain, and continuously improve centralized repositories for data models and documentation.

Establish and uphold naming conventions, data modeling standards, and best practices to ensure consistency and quality across all models.

Support training and onboarding efforts by providing clear, easy-to-follow documentation and engaging in knowledge transfer with team members and data users.

Identify and address data quality issues, legacy technical debt, and gaps in documentation as part of migration activities.

Partner with data governance leads to ensure compliance with data stewardship, privacy, and lifecycle management policies.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor s or Master s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.

3+ years of hands-on data modeling experience using tools like ER/Studio, SqlDBM, Erwin, etc. in cloud data warehouse or analytics environments (Snowflake preferred).

Demonstrated expertise in reverse engineering existing databases and translating into modern data modeling tools.

Strong capability in metadata management, business glossary development, and technical documentation.

Familiarity with data governance concepts, naming conventions, and data quality best practices.

Proficiency in SQL and assessing database structures.

Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder engagement skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience leading or supporting data modeling tool adoption projects.

Background in large-scale data migrations or modernization efforts.

Experience in pharmaceutical, healthcare, or similarly regulated industries.

Understanding requirements for analytics, self-service BI, and AI/ML data contexts.
