Data Modernization Director
Client: Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH)
Location: 570 East Woodrow Wilson, Jackson, MS 39216
Work Arrangement: 100% Onsite (Some telework allowed)
Contract Duration: ASAP 11/30/2027
Hours: Mon Fri, 8:00 AM 5:00 PM (40 hrs/week)
Travel: Occasional (In/Out of State)

MSDH is seeking an experienced Data Modernization Director to lead and support enterprise-wide modernization initiatives funded under the CDC Public Health Infrastructure Grant (PHIG), Strategy A3: Data Modernization.
This leader will oversee complex, multi-faceted data modernization projects-including website modernization, new licensing/certification systems, immunization system interoperability improvements, and electronic test order/results (ETOR) enhancements for the state public health laboratory.
Key Responsibilities-
Provide strategic oversight and direction for all Data Modernization projects under CDC PHIG Strategy A3.

Guide projects such as:

Agency website modernization
-
Implementation of new licensing & certification databases

Enhancements to immunizations information system interoperability

Electronic Test Orders & Results (ETOR) modernization

Assist in creating and maintaining project timelines and ensure milestones are met.

Serve as a key communication point between project teams, leadership, and stakeholders.

Support and mentor project leaders throughout planning and execution phases.

Build and oversee a support team as project needs evolve.

Ensure progress aligns with agency data modernization goals and deadlines.
Candidates MUST have the following (otherwise they cannot be considered):
Core Experience-
Advanced experience (7+ years) overseeing planning, organizing, budgeting, and executing multi-faceted data management or modernization projects.

Strong ability to communicate with staff involved in data collection, management, and system development.

Experience working within data and IT security standards applicable to protected health information (PHI).

Working knowledge of data management, visualization, and analytics tools.

Experience collaborating with vendors of modern data platforms, systems, and applications.
