Job Title: Database Administrator Advanced (Adabas/Natural)
Location: Columbia, SC (Hybrid On-site first 2 months, then remote)
Contract Duration: 12 months (strong possibility of multi-year extension; project expected to last ~8 years)
Interview: 1 round, Virtual/Online
Candidate Requirement: Must be a South Carolina resident OR willing to be onsite in Columbia, SC for the first 2 months at own expense.

About the Role
The State of South Carolina is seeking two Software AG Adabas/Natural Database Administrators to support mission-critical systems. You will be responsible for administering Adabas databases, managing Natural Security, supporting data access solutions, and ensuring secure, reliable, and high-performance operations across environments. This role is central to sustaining enterprise applications and driving long-term platform stability.
Key Responsibilities

Database & Environment Administration:
-
Manage Adabas & Natural Security in production, test, and development.

Perform nightly backups, environment refreshes, and DDM/script maintenance.

Monitor performance and ensure system stability.
-

Security & Compliance:
-
Configure and maintain role-based security and access controls.
-
Perform audits, document access changes, and support regulatory compliance.
-

Data Access & User Enablement:
-
Implement and maintain Adabas data access tools (e.g., CONNX).
-
Build and maintain data catalogs, user guides, and training materials.
-
Support users with query design and analytics access.

Change & Release Management:
-
Guide schema and file modifications across dev/test/prod.
-
Maintain formal data dictionaries and document all changes.
-
Write and manage scripts supporting applications and operations.

Platform Improvement & Resilience:
-
Research and implement upgrades, patches, and hardware/software enhancements.

Support business continuity and disaster recovery planning and testing.

Minimum Qualifications
-
8+ years of hands-on experience with Software AG Adabas and Natural Security administration in production environments.

Proficiency with CONNX (or similar tools) for Adabas data access, installation, and user support.

Strong knowledge of backups, restores, environment refreshes, scripting, and performance tuning.

Experience with security/access control, audits, and regulated environment compliance.

Familiarity with SDLC/change control and maintaining a formal data dictionary.

Strong communication skills, including writing technical documentation and user training materials.

Experience with Software AG tools such as NaturalONE, Predict, EntireX, and DDM management.
Preferred Qualifications

Experience with capacity planning, platform upgrades, and performance optimization.

Participation in business continuity and disaster recovery (BC/DR) programs and exercises.
