Job Details

Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.

As an Opto-Electrical Liaison Engineer on the OISL team, you will support the production and integration of high-speed optical and electronic communication hardware. This role spans optical transceivers, laser drivers, detectors, and supporting electronics-ensuring hardware is debugged, validated, and delivered with high quality and performance.

Key job responsibilities
* Applies knowledge of OISL design principles to assess and resolve opto-electrical product/process issues through the product lifecycle.
* Analyzes, conducts root cause analysis, and develops dispositions for design and build non-conformances.
* Applies engineering principles to investigate technical, electrical, and quality issues that cannot be resolved by production teams and implements solutions.
* Identifies and documents reported issues, and communicates deviations that may impact functionality, performance, or test coverage; manages resolution and closure.
* Reviews and dispositions non-conformances related to PCBs, laser modules, detector circuits, and harnessing through all phases: procurement, manufacturing, test, and integration.
* Develops standard rework procedures, test coverage improvements, and board-level DFM feedback.
* Works closely with quality, firmware, hardware, and systems engineering teams to ensure functional performance is met.
* Collaborates with CM/OEM vendors and internal suppliers for resolution of electrical integration issues.

Export Control Requirement:

A day in the life
Each day begins by reviewing test data, addressing non-conformances, and aligning with quality, integration, and design teams. You'll investigate root causes-whether optical, electrical, or mechanical-then propose and implement solutions to keep hardware on track. Hands-on work may include troubleshooting hardware, authoring rework instructions, or validating process improvements on the floor. You balance speed and rigor, ensuring fixes are well-documented and maintain design intent. Your efforts directly support the delivery of reliable, space-ready optical inter-satellite link systems.

About the team
The OISL team develops and delivers space-based optical inter-satellite link systems, enabling high-speed laser communication across the Kuiper constellation. The team focuses on precision hardware, alignment, and system reliability to meet the demanding requirements of space borne optical networks.
