Overview

This position supports a high-performance engineering environment where technical excellence, collaboration, and accountability are core to daily operations. The role centers on developing and executing test solutions for advanced spacecraft avionics and related systems. The facility specializes in designing and producing mission-critical spaceflight hardware for government and commercial space programs.

The Senior Test Engineer will be responsible for developing Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) and supporting the full lifecycle of integration, testing, and verification processes for spaceflight units. This role provides the opportunity to work on complex, high-reliability systems with a strong emphasis on innovation, accuracy, and compliance with rigorous aerospace standards.

Key Responsibilities

1. EGSE Design & Development

  • Design and manufacture Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) to support testing of spaceflight hardware.

  • Develop complete EGSE test systems including hardware, software, schematics, and documentation.

  • Select and configure COTS (Commercial Off-the-Shelf) test instruments.

  • Design custom interface boxes, fixtures, test panels, and associated cabling for Unit Under Test (UUT) operations.

  • Ensure all test hardware validates the full functional and contractual requirements of the UUT.

2. Unit Under Test (UUT) Integration

  • Support testing activities for UUTs that typically include:

    • Embedded Single Board Computers (SBC)

    • Custom analog and digital I/O boards for Command & Data Handling (C&DH)

    • Electrical Power System (EPS) boards for switching, solar array control, and battery charging

  • Participate in hardware/software integration efforts, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis.

3. Test Software Development

  • Create LabVIEW VIs for instrument control, monitoring, and user interfaces.

  • Develop Python or PERL scripts to automate VxWorks and LabVIEW test sequences.

  • Work with VxWorks-based test code to support integration with embedded C applications.

  • Knowledge of VHDL is desirable for FPGA-related test development.

4. Documentation & Compliance

  • Generate and maintain detailed assembly drawings, schematics, BOMs, and wiring diagrams using Microsoft Visio, Excel, and engineering documentation tools.

  • Write and maintain Integration & Test Plans, Environmental Test Plans, and Acceptance Test Procedures.

  • Ensure documentation meets internal configuration management and customer-facing deliverable requirements.

5. Collaboration & Leadership

  • Work closely with cross-functional engineering teams to meet program schedules.

  • Take ownership of assigned deliverables and drive execution on schedule.

  • Mentor and support junior engineers in hardware/software development, debugging, and test execution.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.

  • 7–10 years of experience in test engineering or related disciplines.

  • Proficiency in at least one of the following programming languages: C, LabVIEW, Python, or PERL.

  • Strong understanding of hardware design, circuit fundamentals, and cable design/drafting.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools including Visio and Excel.

  • Experience developing automated test systems for embedded hardware.

  • Strong analytical, documentation, troubleshooting, and communication skills.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with VxWorks.

  • Familiarity with VHDL for FPGA programming or integration.

  • Background working with SBCs, C&DH systems, EPS hardware, cPCI architectures, or spacecraft avionics.
