Utility Operations Subject Matter Expert (SME)
Role Overview: We are seeking an experienced Utility Operations Subject Matter Expert (SME) to provide deep expertise in utility transmission and distribution (T&D) operations, with a focus on modernizing Distribution Control Rooms. This role will support the Organization in developing a comprehensive strategy and actionable roadmap for the deployment of advanced operational technologies, including Advance Distribution Management Systems (ADMS), Outage Management Systems (OMS), Distributed Energy Resource Management System (DERMS), and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) integrations. The SME will ensure alignment of people, processes, and technology to deliver a resilient, reliable, and customer-centric control room of the future.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead assessments of current utility operations, organizational structures, processes, and technologies to evaluate readiness for control room modernization.
- Provide expert input on sequencing and deployment of advanced operational technologies such as ADMS, OMS, SCADA, DERMS, and AI-driven analytics.
- Define future-state organizational roles, skill requirements, and workforce training programs to align with evolving operational needs.
- Contribute to the development of guiding principles and strategic foundations for NextGen control room design (people, process, technology, facilities).
- Evaluate integration requirements and interoperability among enterprise systems to enable predictive, efficient, and reliable operations.
- Provide actionable recommendations to enhance storm response, outage management, and situational awareness.
- Support the creation of a phased, prioritized roadmap that aligns investments, technology upgrades, and organizational readiness.
- Participate in stakeholder workshops with client and partners, and industry peers to incorporate benchmarking and best practices.

- Project Execution Plan
- Current-State Assessment & Findings
- Final Roadmap & Implementation Blueprint
Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 10+ years in electric utility operations, T&D system management, or control room transformation initiatives.
- Demonstrated expertise in ADMS, OMS, DERMS, and SCADA systems, including integration and deployment strategies.
- Strong understanding of regulatory drivers, resiliency requirements, and customer experience imperatives in utility operations.
- Proven experience in organizational change management, workforce transition, and training program development.
- Deep technical expertise in Utility Control Room operations
- Familiarity with AI, predictive operations, and emerging technologies in utility operations is highly desirable.
- Exceptional communication skills with ability to engage executive leadership, technical teams, and field operations.
- Prior consulting experience with utilities, ISOs, or large-scale grid modernization projects strongly preferred.
- Education: Bachelor s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or related field (Master s preferred).
