Description
We are looking for an experienced Fiber Optics Solutions Engineer to join our team in Richmond, Virginia. The Fiber Optics Solutions Engineer is responsible for supporting and optimizing fiber optics sales and manufacturing processes. This support includes quoting custom-built products, development and maintenance of accurate documentation, analyzing current processes and implementing improvements process that will improve quality, labor efficiency, and/or workflow. Champion of new product introduction to manufacturing processes, while maintaining our premium quality standards. The Fiber Optics Solutions Engineer will work closely with the QMED team which includes Quality Assurance, Manufacturing, Engineering and Drafting, upper management and the sales teams to support product quoting and manufacturing requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support of sale team during the quoting process for in-house manufactured products
- Daily engagement with Quality, Manufacturing and Drafting teams to actively improve process efficiency.
- Daily engagement on the manufacturing floor to provide hands-on support for process improvements.
- Create Time Studies to analyze and improve labor calculations and estimations.
- Documentation of custom solutions such as generating Bill of Material, Assembly Drawings, component sourcing, and assembly techniques.
- Fully maintain all manufacturing systems including maintenance and calibration documentation.
- Support management requirements as needed.
Requirements
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree OR Relevant experience in either Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and/or Electrical Engineering (bachelor's degree not required).
- Minimum 3 years of experience in Manufacturing Processes.
- Strong computer and web skills, including Microsoft Office and CAD Design (SolidWorks preferred)
- Fiber Optics and/or Electrical Manufacturing experience preferred.
- Basic knowledge of data centers and data comm network infrastructure is desired.
- Background in project, client and vendor management
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Should be proficient in the following:
- Microsoft Office Suite of products, especially Excel
- Previous ERP system Experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to effectively work under tight deadlines and manage projects independently
- Resourcefulness and problem-solving skills
- Excellent people skills with enthusiastic and collaborative attitude
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Strategic thinker; able to build relationships and be a creative problem-solver
- Strong understanding of optical communications principles.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with all levels of staff from entry level to partners and work well in a team-focused environment.
