What work will you perform?
The Liability Claims Specialist is responsible for investigating and resolving complex third-party bodily injury and property damage claims within the highly regulated transportation industry. This role manages the full lifecycle of claims, including detailed investigations, liability evaluations, litigation support, and settlement negotiations, while ensuring strict compliance with federal, state, and industry regulations. The Specialist will analyze accident details, interview involved parties, preserve critical evidence, respond to legal discovery, attend mediations, and establish accurate reserves. This role is ideal for building your advanced expertise in a specialized sector of insurance and transportation risk, gaining broad insight into operational and legal processes across the organization.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Review initial accident and incident reports, including parties involved and the extent of injuries or property damage.
  • Verify the insured's compliance with all applicable DOT and FMCSR regulations.
  • Ensure that all relevant driver, vehicle, and company records are preserved and properly documented.
  • Conduct thorough investigations into accident details, bodily injuries, and property damage.
  • Interview involved parties, witnesses, and unrepresented claimants to gather critical information.
  • Apply jurisdiction-specific negligence standards when evaluating liability.
  • Respond promptly and accurately to legal discovery requests, interrogatories, and document production demands.
  • Identify and prepare internal personnel for depositions.
  • Establish and adjust claim reserves based on investigation findings and liability assessments.
  • Participate in mediations and settlement conferences as needed.
  • Maintain full compliance with state-specific claims handling rules and regulations.
Minimum Experience and Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Two-year college degree in related field or equivalent experience
  • Three years of high exposure liability claims experience
  • Florida adjuster license required with ability to qualify for multi-state licensing
Preferred Experience and Qualifications:
  • Three years' transportation experience
  • CPCU or Certificate in Risk Management
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including grammar and effective business writing, with the ability to read, interpret, and convey complex information clearly and professionally.
  • Strong understanding of the risks and complexities associated with trucking accidents.
  • Working knowledge of tort law, negligence principles, damages assessment, and standard claims-handling practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret legal documentation
  • Familiarity with electronic discovery processes and proper evidence preservation.
  • Skilled in negotiation, mediation, and conflict resolution with the ability to achieve fair and timely outcomes.
  • Commitment to maintaining multi-state adjuster licensing, completing continuing education, and staying current on industry trends and regulations.
  • Proficiency with Windows, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PDF document formats.
  • Experience using electronic claims management systems.
