W2 Contract-to-Hire, 12 Months
This position is primarily remote. Candidates should be comfortable working onsite once or twice per month in Reston, VA. Therefore, candidates must reside in Maryland, Washington, DC, Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, or Delaware.
Overview & Responsibilities
Work with a leading organization on a critical cloud modernization project. We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Software Engineer and a Senior Software Engineer to act as subject matter experts for API management. You will play a pivotal role in a high-priority initiative to design, develop, and implement a new API Gateway solution on AWS from scratch. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of the company's technology landscape while also supporting their existing enterprise-level IBM API Connect environment. Act as a subject matter expert for Web Services, microservices, and REST APIs.
Design, develop, and implement custom API flows on a new AWS API Gateway platform being built from the ground up.
Support, manage, and troubleshoot the existing on-premise IBM API Connect v10 and DataPower v10 platforms.
Review API specifications to ensure they conform to enterprise standards and governance frameworks.
For the Lead role: Research and propose technical solutions, establish API governance standards, guide team members, and help plan the strategic roadmap.
Develop automation scripts using Python and Node.js to improve efficiency and support CI/CD processes.
Participate in all phases of the project lifecycle, from proof of concept and environment setup to production releases and support.
Required Qualifications
Extensive hands-on experience with AWS, particularly AWS API Gateway and Lambda authorizer.
Strong, recent experience with the IBM API stack, specifically IBM API Connect v10 and IBM DataPower v10 (minimum of 5 years experience preferred).
Proficient in scripting for automation with Python and/or Node.js.
Deep understanding of REST services, Microservices architecture, and OpenAPI Specifications 3.0.
Experience with web security standards, including OAuth and JWT.
Must be located in the DMV area and eligible for full-time conversion.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.
Familiarity with SwaggerHub for API lifecycle management.
Experience creating or managing custom Jenkins pipelines.
A background in Java and Spring Framework.
