Title : IBM iSeries (AS400) System Administrator
Location : NY, NY (Must be local) (Hybrid)
Duration : 3-6+ months with the right to hire.


Job Description:
The IBM iSeries (AS400) system operations and administration position involves providing technical support and managing daily operations.
The role requires a strong focus on customer service, system administration tasks, and collaboration with the support team.

Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support for AS/400 environments.
  • Perform backups, migrations, release updates, PTFs, and disaster recovery testing.
  • Assist with system administration and perform system restores.
  • Work closely with application developers and third-party vendors to support, troubleshoot, and enhance external applications running on IBM systems.
  • Troubleshoot system problems and assist with help desk tasks.
  • Creating and managing system user profiles, assigning and revoking user profile rights/authorities, and resetting user profile statuses.
  • Managing system database tables, monitoring, handling record locks, and performing regular system table maintenance
  • Manage the day-to-day operations and maintenance of the AS400 system.
  • Ensure system reliability, availability, and performance.
  • Install software updates.
  • Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues.
  • Implement security measures and manage user access.
  • Conduct regular system backups and recovery processes.
  • Collaborate with IT and business teams to optimize system use.
  • Develop and maintain system documentation and procedures.

Skills
  • IBM Flash Storage experience.
  • Virtual Tape Library (VTL) experience.
  • Passion for technology and a desire to learn new skills quickly.

Requirements
  • 4+ years of IBM i (AS400) technical support or operator experience.
  • Excellent communication skills and a high level of customer service.
  • Ability to work on multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.
  • Proven ability to work with little supervision and a detail-oriented approach.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in IBM I OS v7.3
  • Troubleshooting and technical experience related to IBM i.
  • Must be able to run jobs from established run sheets and maintain those run sheets
  • Prior Hardware Management Console (HMC) and Console experience
  • Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • A college degree or equivalent work experience
  • IBM System I operations certifications are a plus

Nice-to-haves
  • Manage Salesforce user access, roles, profiles, and permission sets, as requested.
  • Provide support to end-users on Salesforce platform issues.
  • Proficient in generating reports and dashboards in Salesforce.
  • Experience using ticketing tools, such as ServiceNow.
