Under close supervision, conducts testing that supports studies to determine the most efficient sequence of operations and workflow. Assists other engineers in their activities and may be responsible for small projects. Improves the productive processes of the plant by the control and analysis of the index of productivity and efficiency. Learning role with 1 to 2 years of experience.

This (non-credited) internship opportunity will run from date of hire through April, with the opportunity to extend the role into a co-op through the summer 2026. Students in an industrial engineering undergrad program (or analog) or relevant graduate program are eligible to apply. Please understand this role is not tailored for other engineering fields such as Mechanical, Electrical, or Computer Engineering. Compensation for this role is $22-28 per hour. Hours during the school year are 20/week for those enrolled in full-time schooling, but full-time hours will be available during the summer.

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Industrial Engineering Intern to join our team. The intern will support our operational excellence and lean transformation initiatives by collaborating with cross-functional teams, enhancing procedures, and promoting a culture of continuous improvement. There is no benefits package offered for this short-term role, outside of statutory state and federal benefits.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Excellence
  • Review and evaluate existing operational procedures with cross-functional teams.
  • Update and improve procedures as needed through the Process Change Notification (PCN) process.
  • Develop and standardize work instructions to ensure consistency, efficiency, and compliance with operational standards.
  • Document changes and ensure proper implementation across departments.

Continuous Improvement (CI)
  • Assist in the implementation of Lean Daily Management (LDM) practices, including visual management boards, daily huddles, and performance tracking.
  • Contribute to establishing and nurturing a Lean Culture across the organization by engaging employees in CI initiatives.
  • Participate in and support various CI projects aimed at reducing waste, optimizing processes, and improving productivity.
  • Collect and analyze data to identify improvement opportunities and recommend solutions.

Safety
  • Support the creation, review, and update of risk assessments for operational activities.
  • Collaborate with teams to implement corrective and preventive actions to mitigate identified risks.
  • Assist in employee training related to updated safety procedures and risk control measures.
  • Promote a safety-first mindset in all process improvement activities.

Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities for effective cross-functional collaboration.
  • Detail-oriented with strong documentation and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); knowledge of Lean Six Sigma tools is an advantage.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
