About the Role
We are hiring an experienced IT Manager to lead a small internal IT team supporting a healthcare organization operating in a Microsoft-centric environment. This is a newly created role designed to bring proven leadership, structure, and accountability to a growing IT operation.
The ideal candidate has hands-on technical depth in Microsoft infrastructure and cloud services, strong communication skills, and a leadership style that balances flexibility with accountability. You'll manage a small team while remaining involved in daily technical operations and project execution.
What You ll Do
Leadership & Team Management (70%)
Lead and develop a team of 4+ IT staff (helpdesk and network/system administrators)
Assign tasks, manage workloads, and ensure timely completion of support tickets and projects
Coach, mentor, and build skill sets within the team
Serve as the escalation point for technical and operational issues
Maintain a collaborative, high-performance culture without micromanagement
Technical Responsibilities (30%)
Provide hands-on support within a Microsoft environment, including Active Directory, Azure AD, M365, and endpoint management
Support hybrid infrastructure and assist in the organization s transition toward Azure-first environments
Participate in network and infrastructure troubleshooting (switching, basic routing, firewall awareness)
Assist in workstation lifecycle, patching, and security best practices
Collaborate with external vendors and security partners
Security, Compliance & Operations
Promote a security-focused IT culture with risk awareness and best practices
Support HIPAA compliance requirements for systems, data access, and user security
Assist with documentation, policies, procedures, and user access controls
Work with external partners for security monitoring, tools, and escalations as needed
What We re Looking For
Required
2 5+ years of IT management or team leadership experience
Hands-on background in Microsoft technologies: Active Directory, Azure AD, M365
Experience in hybrid and/or Azure cloud environments
Strong problem-solving and escalation management skills
Familiarity with basic networking concepts (switching, VLANs, connectivity troubleshooting)
Ability to balance leadership with hands-on technical work
Excellent communication and user support skills
Local to the Portland metro area with ability to be onsite twice per week
Preferred
Experience in healthcare or other regulated industries
Understanding of HIPAA, PHI access rules, and compliance frameworks
Experience with workstation refreshes, imaging, endpoint management, or MDM
Experience supporting Cisco/similar switching environments
Exposure to API integrations and vendor partnership management
