Location: San Diego, CA (Hybrid)
Duration: 6-month contract
An experienced Telecom Infrastructure Engineer is needed to design, install, and maintain wide-area and local-area network infrastructure. In this senior role you will tackle complex telecommunications challenges integrating multiple services, managing network assets, and adapting to regulatory changes while deploying emerging network technologies. Network engineers generally design, install and maintain digital communication networks , and here you will focus specifically on telecom networks (WAN/MAN/LAN) to ensure connectivity, interoperability, and security.
Key Responsibilities
- Telecom Network Design & Operations: Design, implement, and secure telecommunications networks (WANs, MANs, LANs), ensuring reliable 24/7 connectivity. Manage routers, switches, firewalls and other equipment to keep the network running continuously.
- Service Convergence & Standards: Address service convergence issues and interoperability challenges (e.g. integrating voice, data, and new services). Ensure network systems comply with industry standards and adapt to deregulation impacts.
- Regulatory & Policy Analysis: Analyze the impact of telecom regulations and policies on network architecture. Incorporate strategic planning to align the network design with business and regulatory requirements.
- Asset Management & Emerging Tech: Manage telecommunications assets and lead the deployment of emerging technologies (such as IoT connectivity, cloud networking, SD-WAN, etc.) to enhance network capabilities.
- Network Planning & Analysis: Perform network engineering analysis and strategic planning to optimize architecture and capacity. Identify areas for improvement and implement solutions to maintain high performance and security.
- Interconnection Planning: Plan and coordinate interconnections between LAN, MAN, and WAN segments, ensuring seamless communication across all network layers.
- Project Leadership: Lead telecommunications engineering projects and initiatives. Coordinate cross-functional teams, set technical direction, and ensure projects meet schedule and quality goals.
- Education: Bachelor s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Science or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience: Minimum 5+ years of experience in network/telecom engineering or similar IT infrastructure roles (as indicated by the Upper Rate level in telecom services). Experience should include hands-on design and support of enterprise WAN and LAN networks.
- Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of networking protocols and standards (TCP/IP, routing/switching, VoIP, MPLS, etc.), network security practices, and telecom regulatory requirements. Proven ability to deploy and troubleshoot routers, switches, firewalls, and related equipment.
- Professional Skills: Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities. Strong communication and project-management skills to lead cross-team initiatives. Ability to translate business needs into technical solutions and to work under a hybrid, contract-to-hire arrangement.
- Additional Skills: Dynatrace, SRE, JavaScript, TypeScript, Log Management, Analytical skills, Automation, Ansible
