This position is expected to start around January 2026 and continue through the Winter/Spring term (ending approximately May 2026) or continuing into Summer 2026 if available and there is an opportunity to do so. We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time and on-site, for most internships. Our internship program is for students who are actively enrolled in an academic program. entry level candidates seeking employment after graduation and not returning to school should apply for full-time positions, not internships.
International Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school on your ability to work 40 hours per week before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week on-site. Many students will be limited to part-time during the academic year.

Tesla Energy is looking for a motivated Software Integration Engineer to help bring the next generation of industrial energy products to the market. As a member of the industrial firmware team, you will be responsible for delivering high quality software and firmware in support of manufacturing, commissioning, and service. You will architect the software solutions for manufacturing quality Energy products in our factories. Rethink manufacturing and service processes with other product and design teams.
You will have the opportunity to solve challenging problems on the production line and in the field. Collaborate closely with hardware, manufacturing, and service engineering to design firmware and automation solutions for a seamless deployment experience. You will show outstanding organizational and communication skills and an eagerness to learn in an ever-evolving environment. Responsibilities
  • Develop, enhance and debug new and existing software and firmware in Python, C, C++, and Rust
  • Perform hardware and firmware integration of current and next generation Tesla Energy products
  • Lead and own firmware validation, new features definition, firmware regression, and firmware releases in relation to the manufacturing process
  • Design robust and exhaustive test procedures for high voltage power electronics, battery modules, and thermal systems
  • Develop, integrate, and debug features at the system level and release the changes to production
  • Contribute to software architecture design, development of software applications, and integration into manufacturing processes and production lines
  • Track and communicate project status and risks to the wider organization. Interact with engineers from multiple teams
  • Hands-on with hardware bring up, debug issues and devise solution paths

Requirements
  • Currently pursuing a Degree in Computer Science or engineering related field
  • Hands-on experience with electrical and software engineering components and an understanding of how they interact in a complex product
  • Must be comfortable with hands-on lab work (including the use of scopes/logic analyzers, power supplies, electronic loads, CAN tools, soldering irons as needed to support integration). Capable of delivering high quality Python, C, C++, or Rust software solutions
  • Exceptional analytical problem-solving skills, able to identify and surface issues within complex HW/SW systems
  • Shows a keen understanding of physics and follows first principles in design and development.
  • Excellent communication skills, say something when you don't know, be available to other team members when questions arise. Excellent attention to detail
  • Remain engaged, proactive and positive in tough circumstances/challenging problems
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. Own assignments and take accountability for your work
  • Interest in manufacturing analytics and metrics: first-pass yield, cycle time, test coverage, failure modes
  • Knowledge of Functional Safety application, FMEA role in firmware development
  • Experience with JSON, Protobuf, REST, HTTP/S, Ethernet, CAN
  • Experience with electrical grid, AC/DC power, power converters etc.
  • Bring a firmware validation mindset to the team. Experience with Continuous Integration workflow: unit test, software in the loop, hardware in the loop. Participation in firmware testing
  • Experience with firmware and software toolchains: compilers, debuggers, version control
  • Experience working with high power (50kW+) and/or high voltage (1kVDC, 480VAC) products
