Institutional Securities Technology (IST) develops and oversees the overall technology strategy / solutions to drive and enable the institutional businesses and enterprise-wide functions. Our clients include Fixed Income, Equities, Commodities, Investment Banking, Research and Global Capital Markets. In this role, the Scala developer will cover the full development lifecycle, design and develop functionality for new and existing components of our Risk, P&L Attribution and regulatory stress testing systems. This team develops new functionalities for Cross Asset Finance Risk Calculation and P&L attribution system developed on a Scala based distributed async framework. We serve various trading desks and Finance businesses under the Fixed income division in Morgan Stanley. The team works with cutting-edge technologies in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment. We develop calculations and calculation infrastructure for the fixed income derivatives businesses on a grid computing platform comprising tens of thousands of CPU cores and many Terabytes of RAM in Scala based risk system.
The role involves distributed systems development using caches and grid computation. This is a full-scope, well-rounded type of role where you'll be responsible for gathering requirements from clients and analyzing existing systems and functionalities, development, all the way down to unit testing and regression testing. We do have a solid production management team and you will need to coordinate roll-out and subsequent support with them. The OptimRICE platform on top of which we work helps keep production support to a minimum.
You will collaborate closely with the several global teams within the Interest Rate Derivatives, Interest Rate Cash, FX Option, FX Cash and Credit technology departments and, when necessary, interact directly within the business unit and with the Firm's middleware IT groups.
Due to the cross-asset nature of our work, there won't be a single project we work on -- wide breadth and depth of features will be on the table. Additionally, the team is also working on cutting edge Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning solutions for Finance Business. Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $120,000 and $165,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.

What you'll do in the role:
- Develop cross-asset functionality covering various aspects of the business with exposure to a wide variety of financial instruments and products, i.e. we are not tied to a single business desk or product.
- Opportunity to develop solutions for a distributed system developed on on-premise and cloud infrastructure , where the code written by you will get executed on thousands of machines parallelly.
- Have the opportunity to work in close collaboration with our business users and to learn business concepts like how financial products and financial markets work cross different asset classes (FX, interest rates, credit, derivative, bonds, structuring, etc.)
- Participate in every stage of the lifecycle of development ranging from gathering the requirement and designing solutions and writing code, to helping answer in-depth user questions.
- Work on a cutting-edge technology landscape involving the Scala programming languages, bitemporal data store, a state-of-the-art referential transparency based async calculation platform.

What you'll bring to the role:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 4+ years of relevant experience in writing code in Jave / C++ / C # / Scala.
- Knowledge of any Functional Language (Go / Haskell / Rust / Clojure etc) is added advantage, but not required
- Strong understanding of software development methodologies, such as Agile, Scrum, and DevOps, with the ability to implement best practices.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and executives.
- Proficient in Java software development tools & technologies, strong technical background to be on-hands and guide and support team members.
