Backend Developer (Java) - 12-Month W2 Contract
Location: Onsite - Pleasant, CA
Pay Rate: $55-$65/hour (Depending on Experience)

Russell Tobin is supporting a leading enterprise retailer in hiring a highly skilled Backend Developer for a long-term, onsite contract opportunity in Pleasant, CA. This role is ideal for an experienced backend engineer who thrives in modern microservices-based environments and enjoys working with cutting-edge cloud and DevOps technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Java and Spring Boot
  • Build and integrate RESTful APIs following industry best practices
  • Develop and manage microservices-based architectures
  • Work with MongoDB and MySQL for high-performance data storage and retrieval
  • Implement and support message-driven systems using Kafka or RabbitMQ
  • Deploy and manage containerized applications using Docker and Kubernetes (AKS or GKE)
  • Collaborate with DevOps teams using tools such as GitHub, Jenkins, Chef, Puppet, or ArgoCD
  • Implement monitoring and alerting using Nagios, New Relic, Google Cloud Platform, or Splunk
  • Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies and contribute to continuous improvement of development processes
  • Ensure compliance with security and SDLC best practices

Required Qualifications

  • 7-10 years of total IT experience
  • 6+ years of hands-on experience with:
    • Java
    • MongoDB
    • MySQL
  • Strong experience with Java Spring Boot
  • Hands-on experience with:
    • API Management & Microservices Development
    • Public Cloud Platforms: Azure or Google Cloud Platform
    • Kafka or RabbitMQ
    • Docker & Kubernetes (AKS/GKE)
    • CI/CD & DevOps Tools: GitHub, Jenkins, Chef, Puppet, ArgoCD
    • Monitoring & Alerting Tools: Nagios, New Relic, Google Cloud Platform, Splunk

  • Strong understanding of:

    • RESTful API design principles
    • Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC)
    • Security Compliance
    • Agile & Scrum Methodologies
