Java Spark Engineer - Strategic Banking Platform

Location: Chicago, IL (Onsite - 5 days/week)
Employment Type: Long-Term Contract-to-Hire

Interview Process: 2 rounds, final round onsite

About the Role

Join a major financial institution's Consumer & Community Banking division as a Java Spark Engineer supporting a Strategic Banking Platform-a long-term initiative to build the next-generation ledger system powering multiple financial products. This is a high-impact opportunity to contribute to a foundational internal platform with executive-level visibility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable data applications using Java, Spring Boot, and Apache Spark
  • Work with Spark ecosystem components including Datasets, Spark SQL, and performance tuning for large-scale data processing
  • Collaborate with business analysts and lead engineers to translate requirements into robust software solutions
  • Support production systems and troubleshoot Spark-based applications
  • Participate in engineering communities of practice and contribute to a culture of innovation, inclusion, and respect

Must-Have Skills

  • 3-5 years of hands-on experience in backend development
  • Strong proficiency in Java and Spring Boot
  • Experience with AWS cloud services
  • Solid background in data engineering and ETL pipelines
  • Practical experience with Apache Spark for large-scale data processing

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Kubernetes and container orchestration
  • CI/CD pipeline experience
  • Familiarity with Python for data tasks
  • AWS Certification is a plus

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $61.00/hr.
