Job Description

ECS Federal is seeking a Jr. Linux Systems Engineer to work in our Fairfax, VA office.

This position will support our Engineering and Products program and will require experience building and troubleshooting Linux Systems as well as integrating containerized technologies. The ideal candidate should have familiarity with RHEL and be willing to learn Docker/Kubernetes. Experience working with Multicast Video is beneficial but not required. The candidate will work with a cross functional team of other Linux Systems Engineers, Project Managers, and Software Developers to build, assess, and deploy a variety of software and hardware products globally.

The Junior Linux Systems Engineer should have familiarity with designing/architecting enterprise scale systems incorporating a variety of components (COTS, GOTS, & Open Source) and supporting integration efforts. This individual performs in a multidisciplinary team environment with tight deadlines. The successful candidate is initiative-taking, eager to implement modern and emerging technologies, and thrives working alongside a cross functional team of technical professionals.

Specific duties and responsibilities include:
  • Willingness to report to work in person at headquarters or customer sites
  • Documenting and reporting system discrepancies and efforts to reconcile
  • Support a team of Engineers locally and deployed to several CONUS and OCONUS locations
  • Perform security baselining
  • Manage containerized applications
  • Provide technical briefs to Government/SETA representatives
  • Generate technical documentation, architecture, and after-action reports
  • Troubleshoot Linux systems deployed in development and production environments
  • Communicate effectively within the Intelligence Community and DoD
  • Conduct cyclical inventory and maintain account of Program hardware
  • Ability to lift equipment up to 50 pounds in weight


Required Skills

  • BA/BS degree in Computer Science/Engineering, a related Information Technology Field, or 3 years of Linux systems engineering
  • Eligibility to obtain a TS/SCI with CI Poly security clearance
  • Active DoD 8570 AIT Level II Certification or ability to achieve within 60-days of hire

  • Experience utilizing containerization technologies (e.g. Docker) and orchestration frameworks (e.g. Kubernetes)
  • Ability to work and collaborate with a software development team.
  • Ability to travel frequently and potentially for extended periods of time to CONOCONOUS locations


Desired Skills

  • Active TS/SCI (+CI Poly) security clearance
  • Experience working with multicast video transmission
  • Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA)
  • Experience working with OpenShift Container Platform
  • Experience Implementing Risk Management Framework (RMF) best practices and procedures
  • Experience designing, deploying, and supporting enterprise level systems
  • Experience developing Architecture and Data Flow Diagrams using graphing programs (e.g. Visio)
