Need a Lead Interior Trim Design Engineer for our Client in California

Role Summary:

The Lead Interior Trim Design Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and integration of interior trim components such as dashboards, door panels, center consoles, cockpit modules, and decorative parts. This role combines engineering expertise, aesthetic sensibility, and cross-functional collaboration to deliver high-quality, manufacturable, and regulation-compliant interior systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design & Development:
    • Lead the design of interior trim components including seats, dashboards, door trims, center consoles, and luggage side panels.
    • Create detailed 3D CAD models and 2D drawings using tools like CATIA V5/V6.
    • Ensure designs meet functional, aesthetic, ergonomic, and safety requirements.
  • Engineering Execution:
    • Conduct feasibility studies, material selection, and tolerance analysis using GD&T principles.
    • Optimize designs for manufacturability, cost-efficiency, and mass production.
  • Project Leadership:
    • Manage full lifecycle from concept to prototype to production launch.
    • Coordinate with suppliers, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure alignment with project goals.
  • Innovation & Integration:
    • Integrate advanced materials and technologies (e.g., thermoplastics, vinyl wrapping, hydrographics).
    • Stay updated with industry trends and incorporate new materials and finishes into designs.
  • Collaboration & Communication:
    • Work closely with cross-functional teams including design studios, engineering, and procurement.
    • Lead design reviews and implement changes based on testing and customer feedback.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Design, or Industrial Design.
  • 5 10 years of experience in interior trim design and development.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (CATIA V5/V6).
  • Strong understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, and regulatory standards.
  • Experience with Class A surfaces, fit & finish, tooling, and occupant protection.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in full vehicle integration and module concept development.
  • Knowledge of thermal expansion, structural design, gloss/grain specifications.
  • Familiarity with North American regulatory and homologation standards.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing innovative interior trim designs.
