Job Description Summary
GE Vernova's Power Conversion & Storage business combines advanced energy conversion and storage systems to meet the electrification needs of utilities and industries. This Lead Controls Engineer works as part of the NPI Controls Engineering Team in an international environment and will be responsible for controls software development, development and maintenance of the controls test lab, and controls integration testing. This includes but it is not limited to AC systems, DC systems, Power Conversion, SCADA, unit controls, and plant level controls.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Identify, develop, evaluate, introduce, and manage engineering solutions for product control and control system technology needs.
  • Develop, maintain, and update test benches including networking, remote access, controls hardware, controls software and SCADA systems.
  • Works with systems and controls development teams to ensure test setup capabilities meet the needs of the testing plans.
  • Lead the testing activities to validate plant and unit controls in virtual, bench, and hardware in the loop test environments.
  • Provide guidance and recommendations on proper test environment for the testing that needs to take place, and the level of fidelity required.
  • Develop and implement low fidelity models for initial controls testing that can accelerate testing and learning.
  • Provide mentorship to less experienced team members.
  • Develop and maintain procedures for test records. Create and storing test records.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and solve problems within battery, plant and inverter controls, ensuring lessons learned are captured into standard libraries and addressed fleet-wide.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering / Science or in STEM from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with operation, maintenance and/or systems integration of controls systems
  • Ability to work onsite in Lab and Test location in Niskayuna NY as needed.

Desired Characteristics
  • Demonstrated expertise in energy storage controls, controls validation and verification, and systems integration.
  • Experience with power conversion systems, controls, and electronics.
  • Knowledge of or familiarity with GE's MarkVIe product family and of GE's Cimplicity software (SCADA).
  • Knowledge of communication networks (copper, FO) and their design, SW and Hardware.
  • Familiarity with standard industrial protocols such as OPC-UA and Modbus, as well as standard messaging protocols such as MQTT.
  • Experience working cross-functionally between Engineering, Sourcing, Manufacturing, Logistics, Product Management, etc.
  • Ability to summarize and communicate complex technical information clearly and concisely.
  • Strong problem analysis and resolution skills.

The base pay range for this position is $98,400-$164,000. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for bonuses, such as a performance bonvariable incentive compensation/equity.
