Job Description Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Lead Electrical Engineer to join our MRI RF Coil Electrical Engineering Team within GE Healthcare's Imaging MR modality. In this role, you will lead the design, development, and installed base support of RF coil systems used in MRI applications. The ideal candidate will have strong RF engineering skills, experience in MRI device development, and a collaborative approach to drive innovation and product quality.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

RF Coil Design and Development
  • Design and implement high- and low-power RF circuits for MRI surface coils.
  • Develop new RF coil architectures (e.g., birdcage, loop, phased arrays).
  • Use electromagnetic simulation tools (e.g., HFSS, CST, Sim4Life) to ensure robust and efficient designs
  • Lead design efforts with Electrical CAD and Simulation tools (Cadence, ADS, etc.)

System Integration
  • Analyze interactions between MRI system components (magnet, gradient, RF coil).
  • Ensure compatibility and performance within the MRI system environment.

MRI Bay Troubleshooting and Maintenance
  • Install, adjust, maintain, repair, and provide technical support for MRI systems
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose errors or technical problems and determine proper solutions
  • Conduct regular maintenance checks on MRI machines to ensure optimal performance

Testing and Troubleshooting of Coils
  • Conduct bench-level and system-level testing of RF coils.
  • Perform root cause analysis and resolve complex technical issues.

Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Work with mechanical, systems, and manufacturing engineering teams.
  • Interface with manufacturing, quality, and regulatory teams to ensure compliance and smooth product delivery.

Regulatory Compliance
  • Ensure designs meet FDA, IEC, and other relevant safety and performance standards.
  • Prepare documentation for regulatory submissions and audits.

Leadership and Mentorship
  • Lead design reviews and technical discussions.
  • Mentor junior engineers and support team development.

Innovation and Continuous Improvement
  • Stay up to date with advancements in RF and MRI technologies.
  • Propose and lead R&D initiatives for next-generation coil designs.

Installed Base Support
  • Provide expert-level support for existing RF coil products, including troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and implementation of design improvements or corrective actions.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, or related degree with 5+ years of relevant experience, or a master's degree with 5+ years of experience, preferably in RF design or MR imaging.
  • Knowledge of standard drafting practices, product structuring, electronics modeling, and drawing practices, and engineering analysis techniques.
  • Knowledge of Analog and RF circuit design
  • Understanding of engineering product development processes

Desired Characteristics
  • Master's degree with 7+ years of experience in electrical engineering, preferably in the medical device industry
  • Medical device experience
  • Demonstrated experience in the following: Electromagnetics, Transmission Line design, Antenna Theory & Design, Mixers, Oscillators, Amplifiers, Analog Design, RF Printed Circuit Board Layout experience
  • Experience with Lean methodologies, 5S, Kaizen etc.
  • Experience with Medical device standards like IEC60601-1
  • Experience with Weibull Analysis and DFR (Design for Reliability) tools
  • Self-starter, energizing, results oriented, and able to multi project
