The Opportunity

MetLife Corporate Technology - Controls IT is seeking a Lead Software Development Engineer (Solutions Architect / Product Development Engineer). The ideal candidate will possess strong development and engineering capabilities, communication, collaboration, with hands-on experience in both custom software development and customization / configuration of off-the-shelf/SaaS GRC platforms, supporting Risk, Compliance, and Internal Audit functions. Solid understanding of best practices and developer enablement required. The role is both hands-on and strategic, often guiding teams through architectural decisions, platform modernization, and agile delivery practices.

How You'll Help Us Build a Confident Future (Key Responsibilities)
  • Leading the technical design and development of applications across both custom-built and commercial off-the-shelf / SaaS GRC platforms (e.g., IBM OpenPages, RSA Archer, ServiceNow GRC, MetricStream, etc.), supporting Risk, Compliance, and Internal Audit functions.
  • Partnering with product owners to plan and prioritize impactful business outcomes.
  • Developing and testing software components, including architecture documentation.
  • Managing operational support and root cause analysis for complex workflows.
  • Collaborating with vendors to represent MetLife's needs and assess product impact.
  • Advocating best practices in AI, DevOps, agile, and cloud technologies.

Required Skills
  • 8+ years of experience in leading custom software development and customization / configuration / integration of off-the-shelf/SaaS GRC platforms such as IBM OpenPages, RSA Archer, or similar systems (e.g., ServiceNow, MetricStream).

  • Familiarity with Enterprise Risk Management, Compliance, Internal Audit, or other GRC domains.

  • Proficiency in database design, design patterns, performance tuning, and API integration.

  • Hands-on experience with Agile methodologies, DevOps pipelines, and infrastructure automation.

  • 4+ years of project leadership or project management experience with a proven track record of successful delivery.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships across technical and business teams.

  • Strong capabilities in analysis, problem solving, process improvement, and technical leadership.

  • Demonstrated ability to translate high-level business outcomes into actionable features, including user story creation and backlog prioritization.

  • Experience working in complex global organizations, with effectiveness across multiple business units and geographies.

Preferred Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related discipline; master's degree preferred.

  • Experience working in Financial Services or a Global Insurance organization.

  • Exposure to modern AI technologies.

  • Experience with Microsoft Azure services and cloud-native development.

The expected salary range for this position is $110,000 - $170,000. This role may also be eligible for annual short-term incentive compensation. All incentives and benefits are subject to the applicable plan terms.
