Overview & Responsibilities
Purpose of the Job:
The position of Manufacturing Engineer exists to provide a technical liaison between Manufacturing, Engineering, and Quality Assurance. The position identifies coordinates, and implements, activities with all functional areas that contribute to new, improved or more efficient technologies, processes, and product designs.
The incumbent will assist in preparing for new manufacturing technology and complicated technical systems and provide the necessary skills for successful completion of capital projects.
The position provides technical liaison between manufacturing and engineering to ensure a design to cost approach and manufacturability of components parts within the ISO quality requirements. This position also monitors and analyzes productivity for improved machining operations.

Primary Job Functions:

- Provides technical liaison between Manufacturing and Engineering. Issues instructions on new, improved methods of manufacture. \n
- Reviews designs for manufacturability, quality, and low cost. \n
- Actively participates in cost reduction activities seeking to lower manufacturing costs. \n
- Recommend process changes to reduce lead time and cost. \n
- Supports product design by providing the necessary inputs relative to manufacturing methods and manufacturability. \n
- Analyzes complex bill of material structure. \n
- Interprets Engineering instructions and drawings, translating into manufacturing operations and routing sequences. \n
- Process route sheets for daily demand, ECC's, NCR's and emergency shop requests. Works independently to manage route sheet backlog, by prioritizing tasks at hand. \n
- Develops routings for a wide variety of component parts and assemblies, focusing on best practice. \n
- Re-write routings when necessary based solely on machine tool availabilities. \n
- Works closely with and provides input to CAD / CAM Technicians on optimal routing sequence, fixturing, tools selection, cutting speeds, etc. to aid in CNC program development. \n
- Understanding of CNC machine basic code is required. \n
- Strong understanding of tooling specifications including proper selection, cutting speeds, material removal rates, etc. \n
- Assists in tooling requests, recommending and approving tool fixtures and design. \n
- Ability to identify and implement lean machining practices. \n
- Assists Machinists in running first pass processing of new items. \n
- Critical to programming, setup and inspection tooling for Bearing Department related parts. \n
- Interacts with Machinists on a daily basis for technical support. \n
- Ability to work with a design team to establish new methods for automated programming. \n
- Documenting detailed work instructions. \n
- Issues instructions on new, improved methods of manufacture. \n
- Determine proper machinery needs for future growth. \n
- Aide in development of automated machining processes. \n
- Ability to lead the deployment of capital projects by outlining and selecting machinery needs and requirements. As well as the ability to guide the installation process by providing inputs on foundations, layouts, workflows, needs, and peripherals \n
- Primary technical interface relative to manufacturing processes. \n
- Coordinates efforts to review scrap and rework data to eliminate root cause. \n
- Fills in for Shop Supervisor when required. \n
- Participates actively in company Quality Improvement Programs. \n
- Trains and assist other personnel in accomplishing specific tasks. \n
- Travels as required by job to review vendors and processes.
Assists with evaluating and determining all bearing repairs. \n
Contact with Others:

- Internally the job requires contact with most levels of personnel of a wide variety of departments, including Operators, Production Control, Engineering, etc. \n
- Externally some vendor contacts are required, as well as technical contacts with associated plants and other corporate units. Travel is very limited. \n
Requirements / Qualifications:

- Educational requirements include a Bachelor's Degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, CNC Machining Automation, related field, or equivalent experience. \n
- Training in Problem Solving and Decision Analysis is essential. \n
- Job experience must include at least 10 years in a manufacturing and assembly environment with progressive responsibilities. \n
- Experience with multi-axis/mill turn machine tools is desired. \n
- Technical skills must include in-depth knowledge of Manufacturing Processes, State-of-the-art Machining, Assembly, Manufacturing Techniques and Tool Design. \n
- Additional skills required would include a working knowledge of CAD, CAM, and related systems, non-traditional machining processes, welding, balancing, and inspection techniques. \n
- Foundry experience and/or Babbitt applications is a plus. \n
