Job Details

Physical Designer/Modeler

  • Designer/Technical Associate/Engineer responsible for the creation of mechanical design and associated documentation services using Pro/Engineer (CREO), supporting engineering design work for undersea telecommunications equipment and hardware.  This design position requires a creative and innovative technical professional with an ability to effectively discuss and develop designs or changes through cooperation with—and direction from— engineers;  strong attention to detail;  understanding of mechanical design & testing; capable of working with cross-functional teams; proficient at developing function and design requirements.

ProE is necessary.  Proficiency is more important than years of experience.  ANSYS is an advantage but not a requirement.  A willingness and aptitude for working in labs to collaborate with our engineers is a plus.

  • Experience providing engineering and design services in a mechanical, electromechanical, or electronics design environment.  Candidates will preferably have experience in industry and be capable of working with equipment vendors/suppliers and manufacturing plant personnel to ensure scheduled deliverables are met.

This person will be designing general mechanical components, assemblies, family tables, cable/fiber routing modeling, fixtures, etc. We do not expect them to design sheet metal enclosures and we generally do not design for small electronics or larger pieces of electromechanical equipment/machinery.

  • This candidate shall be adept at working with ProE, modeling, design, and-preferably-analysis tools (e.g. ANSYS).  Must be versed and proficient in all elements associated with design information including: electronic file transfer, drawings, and detailed drawings of equipment from conceptual design through manufacturing phase; knowledge of—and/or comfort around—mechanical hardware is key. Good organization, self-starting (motivated), quick-learning, hands-on aptitude, and writing skills a plus.

Junior level candidates are acceptable provided they have the requisite ProE skills (including communicating well).
