Job Details

Responsibilities:

JOB PURPOSE:
Provides physics services related to the planning and delivery of therapeutic radiation treatment inaccordance with the Radiation Oncologist's prescription. Provides technical leadership including clinicalset-up expertise to radiation oncologists, dosimetrists and therapists. Performs quality assurance checksaccording to regulatory requirements and industry standards for all department equipment.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:
Masters of Science in Medical Physics, or related discipline.


MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Three years of clinical experience in a radiation therapy department or completion of a CAMPEPapproved residency program.


MINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW:
? Board Eligible by the American Board of Radiology in Therapeutic Radiation Physics
? Ability to be listed as an authorized user on State of Georgia Radioactive Material License
? Participation in the American Board of Radiology Maintenance of Certification Program


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES;
1. Works collaboratively with radiation oncologists, medical dosimetrists, and radiation therapists toprovide technical expertise for treatment programs in radiation oncology including, but not limitedto, external beam, brachytherapy, radiosurgery, and radiopharmaceutical programs.
2. Performs quality assurance checks based on industry standards on all equipment including, butnot limited to, linear accelerators; CT scanners; treatment planning systems; and brachytherapysources and equipment per AAPM recommendations and regulatory requirements.
3. Maintains a high level of expertise in the use of the treatment planning and treatment deliveryhardware and software and performs routine quality assurance checks and peer reviews oftreatment plan quality.
4. Performs physics chart checks during the course of care for patients under treatment; makesrecommendations for policy and procedure updates; and provides oversight for the technicalaspects of the treatment delivery process.
5. Recommends opportunities for performance improvement and leads performance improvementprojects; participates in research; and maintains a current industry knowledge by attendingindustry meetings and reviewing industry journals.
6. Collaborates with physics and dosimetry staff at other Piedmont Healthcare locations for bestpractices.
7. Provides staff in-services; radiation safety education; and participates in the instruction of medicalphysics residents, dosimetry students, and radiation therapy students rotating through the clinic.
8. Participates as an active member of medical physics and radiation oncology initiatives, attendsscheduled staff meetings, contributes positively to the growth of programs and services.
9. Performs other duties as assigned.
10. Works closely with radiology, as needed, for advanced imaging techniques and QA that benefitradiation oncology patients.

? Exposed to low-level radiation. Wears badge or equivalent to monitor exposure.
? Able to maneuver and setup dosimetric phantoms for radiation measurements.
