We are seeking a skilled and experienced MemSQL DBA to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for managing and optimizing MemSQL clusters, ensuring optimal database performance, and troubleshooting issues to ensure high availability and scalability. You will collaborate closely with application developers, system administrators, and other stakeholders to ensure that the database architecture aligns with the company s goals and scales efficiently under heavy workloads.

Key Responsibilities:

  • MemSQL Database Management:
    • Install, configure, and maintain MemSQL databases.
    • Monitor, diagnose, and resolve database issues related to performance, availability, and security.
    • Manage database clusters, ensuring they are running efficiently with minimal downtime.
    • Ensure data replication, backup, and restore procedures are in place and functioning correctly.
  • Performance Optimization:
    • Analyze query performance and apply best practices for query optimization (e.g., indexing, sharding, etc.).
    • Work with developers to write and tune efficient SQL queries.
    • Diagnose and address performance bottlenecks across database, disk I/O, and network latency.
    • Implement and optimize partitioning and indexing strategies to improve database performance.
    • Review and improve MemSQL architecture to ensure it meets the growing demands of the application.
  • High Availability & Disaster Recovery:
    • Design and implement disaster recovery solutions, including automated failover and replication strategies.
    • Work on database clustering and sharding to ensure scalability and high availability.
  • Database Security:
    • Ensure the security and integrity of the database by implementing role-based access control, encryption, and auditing.
    • Stay current with database security threats and ensure the database environment is protected from external threats.
  • Collaboration & Reporting:
    • Collaborate with developers to provide insight into database-related challenges and provide recommendations on schema design, indexing strategies, and data access patterns.
    • Work closely with system administrators to optimize resource utilization across servers and networks.
    • Generate regular reports on database performance, availability, and capacity.
  • Documentation & Best Practices:
    • Maintain detailed documentation on database configurations, performance benchmarks, and troubleshooting procedures.
    • Implement and enforce best practices for database management and optimization.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Database Administrator (DBA) with a focus on MemSQL or similar distributed SQL database technologies.
  • Strong understanding of MemSQL architecture, including sharding, replication, and high availability.
  • Hands-on experience with performance tuning and query optimization.
  • Proficiency in SQL, including advanced querying, indexing, and optimization techniques.
  • Experience with cloud environments (AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or Azure) and database deployment.
  • Strong knowledge of data backup and recovery strategies.
  • Experience with monitoring and troubleshooting tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, etc.).
  • Familiarity with automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform) is a plus.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with NoSQL or NewSQL databases (e.g., Cassandra, CockroachDB).
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) for database automation tasks.
