Microsoft Purview Specialist

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Microsoft Purview Specialist to lead our organization's data governance, compliance, and security initiatives. This role will be responsible for implementing, managing, and optimizing Microsoft Purview solutions to ensure comprehensive data protection, regulatory compliance, and effective data governance across our enterprise environment.

Key Responsibilities

Data Governance & Management

• Design and implement Microsoft Purview Unified Catalog and Data Map solutions to provide comprehensive visibility into the organization's data estate
• Develop and maintain data discovery processes using AI-powered scanning across Azure, SQL Server, AWS S3, Power BI, and other data sources
• Create and manage metadata cataloging and data lineage tracking to understand data relationships and dependencies
• Establish data classification schemes and sensitivity labels to ensure proper data handling
• Implement automated data discovery and cataloging processes to enhance data quality, security, and accessibility

Compliance & Risk Management

• Configure and manage Microsoft Purview Compliance Manager to assess and improve compliance posture
• Implement data loss prevention (DLP) policies and monitor compliance across Microsoft 365 and Azure environments
• Support eDiscovery processes including identification, preservation, collection, processing, review, and production of electronically stored information (ESI)
• Develop and maintain compliance workflows and automated remediation processes
• Ensure alignment with regulatory requirements including GDPR, HIPAA, SOX, and other industry-specific regulations

Security & Monitoring

• Monitor and troubleshoot Purview services to ensure optimal performance and availability
• Implement data security policies and access controls using role-based access control (RBAC)
• Configure alerts and reporting mechanisms for compliance violations and security incidents
• Coordinate with cybersecurity teams to address data protection and privacy concerns
• Maintain audit trails and generate compliance reports for stakeholders

Collaboration & Support

• Work closely with legal, compliance, IT, and business teams to understand data governance requirements
• Provide training and support to end users on Purview capabilities and best practices
• Develop documentation, procedures, and training materials for Purview implementations
• Serve as subject matter expert for data governance and compliance initiatives
• Support business stakeholders in understanding data assets and their usage across the organization

Required Qualifications

Technical Skills

• 3-5 years of experience with Microsoft Purview or similar data governance platforms
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365 and Azure ecosystems
• Experience with PowerShell, Azure CLI, and REST APIs for automation and integration
• Proficiency in data classification, sensitivity labeling, and DLP policies
• Understanding of metadata management and data lineage concepts
• Experience with SQL databases, Power BI, and cloud data sources

Compliance & Governance

• Knowledge of regulatory frameworks (GDPR, HIPAA, SOX, PCI-DSS)
• Experience with eDiscovery processes and legal hold procedures
• Understanding of information governance and records management
• Familiarity with risk assessment and compliance reporting

Certifications (Preferred)

• Microsoft SC-400 (Microsoft Information Protection Administrator)
• Microsoft MS-102 (Microsoft 365 Administrator)
• Microsoft AZ-104 (Microsoft Azure Administrator) or similar Azure certifications
• Microsoft SC-200 (Microsoft Security Operations Analyst) - advantageous

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field
• Experience with multi-cloud environments (AWS, Google Cloud)
• Knowledge of data analytics and business intelligence tools
• Understanding of AI and machine learning applications in data governance
• Experience with SIEM solutions and security monitoring
• Project management experience and certifications (PMP, Agile)
