Location : Remote

Duration : 6+ Months contract

Job Description:

Client is seeking a Microsoft Purview Specialist to support the execution of our data governance strategy. This role will contribute to key initiatives including data governance, data cataloging, business glossary management, data quality, and data lineage implementation. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience with Microsoft Purview, alongside strong technical, analytical, and compliance expertise.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement, configure, and deploy Microsoft Purview Unified Data Catalog, focusing on proof-of-concept and transition from existing tools.
  • Integrate Purview with target systems in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Customize metadata models and interfaces to meet organizational data governance requirements.
  • Provide documentation, training, and demonstrations to support user adoption of data governance tools.
  • Use Microsoft Purview to classify, label, and protect sensitive data across Microsoft 365 and Azure platforms.
  • Create reports and dashboards offering insights into data usage, risk, and compliance.
  • Manage data cataloging, classification, and lineage across structured and unstructured data.
  • Configure and scan data sources across hybrid environments (Azure, AWS, M365).
  • Implement Data Lifecycle Management policies and protection mechanisms.
  • Design and deploy sensitivity labels and auto-labeling policies across Microsoft 365.
  • Align data labeling and protection with business and compliance needs.
  • Deliver cross-training on Purview features to internal teams and clients.

Microsoft Cloud & Security Knowledge:

  • Microsoft Purview: Data Map, Unified Data Catalog, scanning configurations
  • Azure Integration: Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, Azure SQL, Azure Data Lake, Azure Storage, Microsoft Entra
  • Microsoft 365 Compliance Center
  • Microsoft Information Protection (MIP), Azure Information Protection (AIP), Role-Based Access Control (RBAC)
  • Data Loss Prevention (DLP), eDiscovery, Identity & Access Management
  • Power BI for data governance metrics and visualization

Preferred Certifications

  • Microsoft Certified: Information Protection and Compliance Administrator Associate
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals
  • Microsoft Certified: Data Analyst Associate
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert (preferred)

Qualifications & Experience

  • 7 10 years of technical experience with Microsoft technologies (minimum 1 2 years with Microsoft Purview)
    • Candidates with 5+ years may be considered if they demonstrate exceptional expertise.
  • In-depth knowledge of Azure resources, tenant configuration, and data scanning across data formats.
  • Experience in data governance within financial services (e.g., wealth management, investment banking).
  • Strong communication skills; able to train and present technical content to non-technical audiences.
  • Experience with Microsoft Copilot and Microsoft admin tools for Purview deployment.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of healthcare insurance data is a plus.
  • Familiarity with data privacy laws such as GDPR, HIPAA, etc.
  • Knowledge of data governance, quality, and metadata management principles.
  • Hands-on experience with master and reference data management.
  • Industry certifications like CDMP (Certified Data Management Professional) are advantageous.
