Molecular Technologist Full Time
Schedule: Day shift (full-time)
Pay Rate: $30 $50/hour (commensurate with experience)
Location: Greater Houston, TX Area

A state-of-the-art molecular diagnostics laboratory is seeking a Molecular Technologist to join its clinical team. This high-complexity testing facility supports a wide range of healthcare providers and offers a fast-paced, collaborative environment where accuracy, efficiency, and innovation are paramount.

Position Overview:
The Molecular Technologist performs complex molecular diagnostic testing procedures, including specimen processing, test performance, data analysis, and result reporting. This role requires strong technical expertise and the ability to operate and troubleshoot a variety of laboratory instruments and software systems independently.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform high-complexity molecular testing following established SOPs

  • Accession and process biological specimens with accuracy and care

  • Monitor quality control, conduct troubleshooting, and document corrective actions

  • Operate and maintain laboratory instruments; perform scheduled maintenance and basic repairs

  • Accurately interpret test results and verify data before reporting

  • Assist in validation and implementation of new assays and instruments

  • Ensure compliance with CLIA, CAP, OSHA, and HIPAA standards

  • Maintain appropriate inventory of reagents and consumables to prevent workflow disruptions

  • Collaborate with other lab personnel and leadership to support continuous improvement


Required Qualifications (Per CLIA for High Complexity Testing):
Candidates must meet one of the following:

  • MD or DO with a valid medical license

  • Doctoral degree in clinical lab science, chemistry, biology, or physical science

  • Master s degree in a relevant lab science field

  • Bachelor s degree in clinical lab science or related discipline

  • Associate degree in lab science or medical lab technology

  • OR qualifying laboratory experience under CLIA (per 42CFR493.1489 regulations)


Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Prior experience in a molecular diagnostics laboratory (preferred)

  • Strong familiarity with PCR, nucleic acid extraction, or sequencing technologies

  • Ability to troubleshoot instrumentation and software systems

  • Detail-oriented mindset with commitment to data integrity

  • Adaptability in a fast-paced, regulated environment


Working Conditions:

  • May require occasional extended hours or weekend availability

  • Potential exposure to biohazards and chemicals

  • Must be comfortable in a dynamic lab setting

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequent standing, walking, reaching, and lifting

  • Fine motor skills for instrument handling and pipetting

  • Visual acuity and manual dexterity for laboratory tasks
