Role Overview

We are seeking a Network Engineer to support day-to-day operations and provide coverage for the current network engineer. This is a hands-on, operational role focused on keeping the lights on, ensuring network reliability, security, and documentation within a Cisco-heavy environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cisco Networking:
    • Monitor, configure, and troubleshoot switching and routing environments.
    • Manage firewalls (rule sets, ACLs) to maintain secure network access.
    • Support and configure Cisco ISE (NAC) for network access control.
    • Maintain and troubleshoot wireless controllers for enterprise Wi-Fi coverage.
  • Network Monitoring & Performance:
    • Use SolarWinds to monitor network health, performance, and capacity.
    • Investigate and resolve network alerts proactively.
  • Security & Access Control:
    • Manage and audit ACLs, firewall rules, and access policies to align with security standards.
  • Documentation & Process Improvement:
    • Create and maintain network documentation including diagrams, SOPs, and change records.
    • Work with the lead network engineer to streamline processes and improve reliability.

What This Person Is Really Doing (Day-to-Day)

This is a steady-state, operational role the person s primary job is to keep the network running, support the current network engineer, and jump in when issues arise:

  • Monitoring network performance daily using SolarWinds.
  • Responding to alerts, investigating outages, and escalating critical issues.
  • Handling routine changes like firewall rule updates, ACL adjustments, VLAN configurations.
  • Supporting NAC/ISE configuration to ensure proper authentication and access control.
  • Assisting with wireless network management and troubleshooting connectivity problems.
  • Documenting changes, incidents, and standard processes for future reference.

Bottom line: They re the second set of hands for the network ensuring uptime, resolving issues, and documenting everything so the environment stays stable and supportable.

Skills & Experience Required

  • 4 7 years of hands-on network engineering experience in Cisco environments.
  • Strong knowledge of switching, routing, firewalls, and ACLs.
  • Experience with Cisco ISE (NAC) and wireless controller management.
  • Proficiency in SolarWinds or similar network monitoring tools.
  • Ability to write clear technical documentation and procedures.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to work independently.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Cisco certifications (CCNA, CCNP) highly desirable.
  • Experience with network segmentation projects or zero-trust environments.
  • Familiarity with VPN technologies and remote access solutions.
