Network Engineer

This position is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the data network and data communication equipment at the hospital, Canton clinic, satellite clinics, and all remote buildings. In addition, the Network Engineer will advise and coordinate Security solutions with both the internal team and external expertise. This position will participate in planning the implementation of new computer applications for the health system. Support and troubleshooting of end user computing devices is also a requirement. This position requires a highly motivated person with critical thinking skills and the ability to problem solve. This position reports to the Director of Information Services.

Position Accountabilities

1. Designs, builds, supports, maintains, and monitors the data network, including all hardware and software:
2. Responsible for the design and ongoing maintenance of the health system data centers network and data closets.
3. Responsible for the design, configuration, and maintenance of the data network, including both wired and wireless networks and the wide area network connections.
4. Responsible for the acquisition, maintenance, and disposition of all network equipment, including core and edge switches, cabling, routers, firewalls, wireless controllers and access points.
5. Responsible for design, build, and maintenance of all VPN and remote connectivity for employees, physicians, vendors, and other healthcare partners.
6. Responsible for designing and maintaining internet access.
7. Plans, develops, implements, and maintains appropriate methods of security against unauthorized access to the health system network and computer applications.
8. Supports network utility software such as internet filtering tools, email encryption software, antivirus, and anti-spam utilities.
9. Helps plan and support IP telephony systems including backend hardware and phones.

2. Collaborate with management and department leaders to assess near- and long-term network capacity needs.
3. Create and maintain documentation as it relates to network configuration, network mapping, processes, and service records.
4. Maintaining current knowledge and understanding of security and networking best practices to offer the best solutions and protection to company systems
5. Develop, implement and maintain policies, procedures, and associated training plans for network administration, usage, and disaster recovery

2. Configure networks to ensure their smooth and reliable operation for fulfilling business objectives and processes.
3. Assists in supporting end user applications if related to network access or performance.
4. Monitor network performance and troubleshoot problem areas as needed.

Position Qualifications

• Associates degree or Certificate from an Accredited Technical Program with an emphasis in computer networking or related area (CCNA,CCNP). Bachelor Degree in related field preferred.
• 5+ years experience working in an Information Services department in a technical position involving network responsibilities.
• Excellent hardware troubleshooting experience
• Working technical knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and Internet standards, including routers, switches (layer 2/3), firewalls, remote access, DNS, BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, VLAN, QoS, DSL, Frame Relay, and Metro Ethernet
• Proven experience and success with LAN, WAN, and WLAN design and implementation.
