Description
SAIC is looking for a talented Network Engineer Principal to provide communications and networking systems engineering support to the Automated Digital Networking System (ADNS) program, based ONSITE in Norfolk, VA. The successful candidate will design, analyze, plan, modify, and maintain networks and network components supporting data, voice, and/or audio communication activities. You will also provide communications systems engineering support for various U/VHF radio communications systems, Common Data Link (CDL) systems, and commercial/government satellite communications systems and networks.
JOB DUTIES:
- Perform system hardware/software installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair activities following established policies and procedures.
- Ensure the system is operational and available within specified customer timeframes.
- Configure systems according to the Program's Configuration and Data Management Plans.
- Prepare analyses of short/long-term capacity needs for switching, routing transmission, and signaling.
- Conduct network architecture design, feasibility, and cost studies, and perform internal studies of network performance and traffic.
- Evaluate new technology for potential implementation.
- Provide detailed specifications and schematics for network architecture, including hardware/software selection, to meet business needs for current and future capacity requirements.
- Conduct testing of network systems to ensure optimal performance.
- Maintain technical expertise in networking and computer hardware/software interconnection and interfacing (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls, hubs, bridges, gateways).
- Evaluate and report on new network technologies to enhance network capabilities.
Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a related field, with nine (9) years of experience in Configuration Management and Network Administration in a Department of Defense (DoD) setting. Years of experience in lieu of degree will be taken into consideration.
- Must have a TS/SCI clearance to start.
- Security+ Certification (other higher level security certifications acceptable).
- Ability to obtain relevant OS/CE certification for Cybersecurity Workforce (CSWF) compliance (e.g., CCNA, Linux+) within 6 months of hire.
DESIRED SKILLS:
- Hands-on experience with operating systems and network hardware related to ADNS and its supporting systems.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Experience with Tactical Data Links, Military Communications, DoD Networks, Global Information Grid (GIG), Common Data Link (CDL), Link 16, and Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS).
- Windows and Linux system administration skills.
- Expertise in network routing & switching systems (e.g., switches, routers).
- Experience with TACLANES and other Communications Security (COMSEC) devices.
- Experience with Triton unmanned vehicle program.
- Knowledge in network defense systems (e.g., firewalls, IDS, IPS).
- Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or equivalent level of Cisco certification.
- Experience with Linux Red Hat versions 5, 6, 7, and 8.
- Experience in a VMware environment.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment within broadly defined practices and policies of military data communications.
