Outside Machinist Job Summary:
We are currently seeking a highly skilled Outside Machinist with a minimum of 4 years of experience, preferably in a shipyard environment. The Outside Machinist will be responsible for installing, aligning, and repairing a variety of shipboard machinery and mechanical systems using precision tools and working from detailed blueprints and technical drawings.
Outside Machinist Responsibilities:
We are currently seeking a highly skilled Outside Machinist with a minimum of 4 years of experience, preferably in a shipyard environment. The Outside Machinist will be responsible for installing, aligning, and repairing a variety of shipboard machinery and mechanical systems using precision tools and working from detailed blueprints and technical drawings.
Outside Machinist Responsibilities:
- Install, align, and repair ship machinery including propulsion systems, pumps, motors, steering gears, ventilation equipment, and auxiliary systems.
- Work from blueprints and layout drawings to determine proper locations for machinery and mechanical components.
- Use tools such as micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, laser alignment systems, and hand tools to perform precision work.
- Lay out and mark locations on bulkheads, decks, and other structures for equipment installation and connections (e.g., shafting, steam lines).
- Align reduction gears, shafts, propellers, bearings, rudders, and steering engine assemblies to meet tight mechanical tolerances.
- Perform maintenance, adjustments, and troubleshooting of shipboard mechanical systems.
- Work in physically demanding environments, including confined spaces, heights, and all-weather conditions.
- Adhere strictly to safety protocols and work collaboratively with other trades to complete assignments.
- Minimum of 4 years of verifiable experience as an Outside Machinist.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and experience working with marine propulsion and auxiliary systems.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
- Proficient in the use of measuring instruments and alignment tools.
- Previous shipyard experience strongly preferred.
- Able to work various shifts and overtime as needed based on production schedules.
- Physically capable of lifting, bending, and working in confined or elevated areas.
- U.S. Citizenship or authorization to work in the U.S. (due to federal contract requirements).
