Plant Engineering Manager
Summary
The Plant Engineering Manager is responsible for leading both the Maintenance and Engineering departments, ensuring cohesive collaboration between the two groups to support plant operations. This role oversees all aspects of plant engineering and maintenance, including capital planning, safety, compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives. The manager serves as a visible, hands-on leader who engages with teams on the floor, drives performance metrics, and ensures efficient, safe, and reliable plant operations.
Key Responsibilities
- - Lead and coordinate activities of both maintenance and engineering teams, ensuring cohesive operations and collaboration.
- - Oversee repair, maintenance, installation, and optimization of machines, tools, equipment, building, and utility systems.
- - Manage departmental budgets, spare parts inventory, contractors, and capital planning initiatives.
- - Drive lean manufacturing initiatives and continuous improvement processes to increase efficiency and reduce downtime.
- - Partner with technicians and supervisors to diagnose equipment and production issues; align resources and contractors for resolution.
- - Establish and monitor KPI metrics, conduct performance reviews, and foster accountability across the teams.
- - Provide strong leadership presence on the plant floor and in the office, engaging directly with teams and ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
- - Support Preventive and Predictive Maintenance programs while ensuring adherence to HS&E elements, including Hazardous Energy Control and Hot Work Permits.
Qualifications
- - Bachelor s degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred; other engineering disciplines considered if mechanical career path pursued.
- - Proven leadership experience overseeing both maintenance and engineering functions in a manufacturing environment.
- - Strong background in Lean Manufacturing, safety compliance, ISO systems, and capital planning.
- - Ability to interpret technical information, analyze complex problems, and drive effective solutions.
- - Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills with the ability to build strong, cohesive teams.
- - Comfortable being on the floor, engaging with employees, and working in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
This role requires frequent presence on the manufacturing floor. The manager must be comfortable working in a production environment, engaging directly with employees and equipment.
