Media Player Engineering

Our mission is to design video streaming playback solutions in collaboration with frontend, encoding, packaging, and delivery teams to optimize the Disney Streaming technology stack for the best streaming experience possible on all devices.

Our team is seeking someone who can fill the role of Principal Player Enablement Engineer for our Scale and Operations team with a focus on bringing our unified playback technology to all endpoints.

As a Principal Player Enablement Engineer, you will help us fulfill our mission by connecting with developers from different teams, contributing to the media player design, and sharing your knowledge and experience with the wider DE&ET community through meetups, brown bags, and documentation, and examples.

The Principal Player Enablement Engineer will define strategies to grow the ecosystem, working closely with our internal clients, determining what the best technologies for their players, then collaborate with teams across the DE&ET organization to ensure that our video players bring best-in-class video experience to our guests.
  • Develop a scalable strategy to provide a unified playback stack to a vast variety of endpoints.
  • Work with our internal clients to onboard the video player for their devices and platforms, determining the best technologies to bring a world class video player experience to our guests.
  • Develop, share and document best practices for player development and deployment.
  • Create engaging content, including technical talks, blog posts, demos, and videos, that educates the Media Engineering and DE&ET community.
  • Work closely with our internal clients to determine the best technologies to properly scale and optimize their deployment processes.
  • Be a Media Player leader within Media Engineering and in the wider DE&ET community.
  • Contribute to top-level goals of the Media Player Engineering and the wider DE&ET Engineering organization teams.
  • Work with our internal teams throughout the development cycle to ensure proper playback of all video player features and enhancements across all the devices and platforms supported by the Media Player Engineering team.
  • Provides client-side advertising expertise to internal teams.
  • Works closely with the internal product, architecture, and engineering teams to define technical solutions to support the roadmap.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • At least 10+ years of experience in the player / video domain
  • Strong communication skills
  • Track record of success in a software company
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Technical skills, particularly an understanding of Media Player and Video Player technologies.
  • Experience in the media player tooling space (automation, testing, etc)
  • Analytical and Data-Driven. Able to use data to drive decisions.
  • Able to work across teams collaboratively.
  • Understanding of the client-side advertising technologies
  • BS Computer Science (or related technical discipline) or equivalent real-world experience as an engineer in the video playback space.

The hiring range for this position in New York and Washington is $189,300 to $253,800 per year and in San Francisco, California is $197,900 to $265,400 per year and in Greater Los Angeles, California is $180,700 to $242,300 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
