Summary of Position

This position will work to improve current manufacturing processes to boost productivity, quality, and profitability for the company. As well as:
  • Works with production and quality team members to identify and mitigate risks, support and ensure equipment is operated safely, processes are being run by procedure, and the weekly production schedule is met.
  • Develops manufacturing standards.
  • Reports and monitors product area quality, scrap, and rework performance, developing root cause and corrective action when required.
  • Monitors and analyzes manufacturing process yields/cost, identifies issues and develops improvement steps.
  • Plans, organizes, leads and completes engineering projects/capital projects for new processes.
  • 50% of time will be spent on manufacturing floor providing engineering support.


Key Deliverables

Works safely and supports safety within their team across the organization, timely completion of projects, corrective actions, and leads proactive process improvements. Participates in team meetings and works with teams to complete projects.

Key Accountability Metrics

Safety metrics, Production schedule completion percentage, Process Scrap rate, Breakdown man hour utilization percentage, Team OEE, Lean Project Completion, Conversion costs per pound, EBITB, ECR completion rate.

Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions

  • Responsible for executing the activities associated with detailed construction, analysis, and maintenance of the Variant Configurators for HPG Global.
    • Including designing and maintaining SAP VC models, object dependencies, variant tables, classification hierarchies, material masters, bill of materials, routings, and variant conditions for pricing and purchasing in the SAP system for sales and production data of complex manufacturing products.
  • SAP Variant Configurator Development and Support:
    • Primary support of SAP / SAP systems and Harris equipment products. Work on characteristics, class, configuration profiles, Super Bill of Materials, Super Routings, object dependencies, Configurable materials, Configurable dimensions, variant pricing, material variants, and material variant costing, VC (Sales Order) costing of Harris equipment products.
  • General SAP Support
    • Participates in team meetings
    • Apply the use of continuous improvement methods and tools
    • Train system users as required.
  • Create and maintain the Variant Configurator data using relational tables and coded procedures. Modify/publish data models relating to the different brands of products. Maintain a strong understanding of variant configurator backend data requirements in the SAP R/3 environment and the impacts of data elements on all enterprise systems. Ensure efficiency and data quality for all functions within the SAP system.
  • Perform integration testing of the variant configurator models in SAP/R3 environments.
  • Assist in the development and validation of training materials as required for new models being released in the VC. Integrate Variant Configuration models into SAP PP and SD modules. Interface with Enterprise IT team members, SAP platform resources, third-party solutions, SAP R/3 end-users, engineering, and new product development personnel.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned. Tracks project savings.


Engineering support - 80%

  • Understands processes, equipment functionality and desired outcome
  • Leads Corrective Actions and proactive process improvements using various six sigma tools such as FMEA, Cause and Effect, Control Charts, etc.
  • Guides reduction efforts for reduction of Mfg. Cost and Cost of poor quality
  • Interprets drawing and spec requirements and translates into robust manufacturing processes
  • Works with production teams to ensure correct procedures and work instructions are in place and followed
  • Assesses safety requirements and makes recommendations to integrate improvements to processes and equipment
  • Reviews process scrap and works with the Quality Department to identify quality issues and develops corrective actions
  • Reviews status of production schedule with teams
  • Reviews & coordinates MPDs with team
  • Reviews previous shifts production for interruptions. Works with production and support teams to recommend corrective actions
  • Works with teams to utilize lean tools: 5s, visual factory concepts in maintaining order, cleanliness, and delivery of downstream value
  • Creates weekly scrap reports and posts graphs
  • Supports sustaining engineering requirements such as Engineering Change Requests (ECRS) and New Part Requests (NPRs) that require costing and the creation of routers
  • Assists maintenance with technical expertise in timely repair of all equipment
  • Works with teams to ensure tooling and repair part Kanban is in place for existing equipment and reviews this when improvements are made or tooling/ parts are obsoleted
  • Works with support team to ensure all equipment has an approved LOTO Placard, Specific LOTO Procedure, proper ARC flash label, and approved preventive maintenance schedule


Team based problem solving/projects - 20%

  • Works on cost savings projects, Six Sigma projects and provides support for other team meetings and projects
  • Researches, designs and draws sketches from initial concepts and ideas for various products and equipment
  • Presents designs, drawings, cost estimates, and project plans for review; Coordinates part acquisition and machine building, and develops project timeline for installation and run out
  • Reviews and coordinates project timeline for completion with support teams
  • Tracks project costs and project improvement savings
  • Provides periodic reports on the status of project milestones and coordinates adjustments to schedules accordingly
  • Controls expenditures within limitations of project budget
  • Works with teams to ensure training takes place for effected team members on process changes, machine improvements or new processes/equipment
  • Employs "Value Stream Mapping" and other continuous improvement tools for assigned areas of responsibility
  • Root Cause and Corrective Action Process including DOE and FMEA
  • Knowledge of Quality Systems; (i.e., ISO, SPC, Continuous Improvement or Lean Mfg.)
  • Develops test plans for new components or modification of components


Education and/or Experience

Required:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering discipline such as Metallurgy, Chemical, Industrial or Mechanical
  • Excellent process trouble shooting skills
  • Proficient in Solid Works
  • Microsoft Office, Mini tab


Preferred:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Six Sigma Training - Certified Green Belt or higher
  • Excellent trouble shooting skills in PLCs, electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems for production machinery
