Job Description
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
\n Follow established jobsite safety and regulations and maintain a safe and clean work area. Identify safety hazards you or
\nother employees may be subject to and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate or minimize hazards.
\n Maintain the ability to read and interpret plans, blue prints, and specifications (technical data) in a variety of provided
\nhardcopy and electronic formats.
\n Perform structural steel welding inspection in accordance with NAVSEA and/or AWS standards.
\n Perform NDT-VT, PT, & MT inspections of welded connections as applicable.
\n Work with production supervision, staff, vendors, suppliers, and customers to ensure the on-time availability of NDT
\nresources across multiple facilities.
\n Maintain notes and related documentation and provide daily progress updates.
\n Utilize company ERP/MRP software along with Microsoft Office products and Adobe Acrobat to prepare and sign-off on
\nreports, COC's, and other objective quality evidence.
\n Provide oversight of and assistance to sub-contract vendors and suppliers as applicable.
\n Costpoint knowledge required, review process instruction and other special processes, respond to quality issues
\n
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
\nPerform other routine duties as directed by supervisors.
\nDevelop rapport and professional working relationships with both internal and external customers as well as vendors,
\nsuppliers, subcontractors, and other internal and external team members.
\n
Qualifications:
\n Possess basic fabrication and metals working knowledge.
\n Demonstrated experience performing visual inspection and nondestructive testing of welds with NAVSEA experience
\nrequired. (VT, PT, and MT)
\n Proficient in the use of weld inspection tools including weld gauges, NDT equipment, and micrometers.
\n Able to work and communicate effectively with other team members and company employees.
\n Prior exposure to Newport News Shipbuilding new construction activities preferred.
\n NBPI or NACE Qualification is a plus.
\n
Minimum Requirements:
\nHigh school diploma or equivalent required.
\nPrior experience in the field with active NDT certification(s) preferred.
\nU.S. Citizen with the ability to pass and hold various background checks and/or security clearances
\n
Physical Demands:
\nWhile performing these job duties, employees are routinely required to stand, walk, lift (<50 lbs), climb, crawl, sit, and to
\nwork at height. To use their hands and fingers to reach, handle, and feel objects, tools, or controls and to type or write.
\nEmployees are also required to be able to see, talk, hear, and smell. Specific vision abilities required include close vision,
\ndistance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
\n
Work Environment:
\nThis position is performed in a traditional shipyard environment with frequent local travel between facilities and project
\nlocations as required.
