The Work
As the Quantum Research Engineering Manager your responsibilities will include:
Leading cross-Corporation engineering of deployable hardware
Collaborating with strategic partners to complete prototype development and field demonstrations
Developing hardware and analytical tools that translate quantum device outputs into practical capabilities
Building and maintaining relationships with customers and internal leadership to ensure alignment with stakeholder priorities
Identifying and developing novel component and system-level solutions with paths to realistic impact
Identifying new areas for focus and developing roadmaps for transforming latent potential into real hardware
Leveraging adjacent Lockheed Martin expertise to advance solution maturity
Diversifying Lockheed Martin quantum capabilities and technical leadership
Mentoring team members to build the broad set of skills required to mature and deliver revolutionary and realistic technologies

Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree is required
15+ years in multi-disciplinary technical experience in product development environment
Prior experience leading multiple concurrent large scale IRADs, VRADs or other investment projects
Prior experience developing product and technology investment roadmaps
Experience in developing low TRL concepts, experience with CRAD & government S&T projects (such as DARPA)
Experience interfacing with company executives, customers, and external agencies and partners
Proven ability to partner across internal business areas
Demonstrated technical and people leadership experience including leading diverse and dynamic multi-discipline engineering teams
Demonstrated Full Spectrum Leadership skills
Demonstrated ability to create a vision, build a team, and execute on that vision to create business value
Active Secret Clearance
Desired skills
A PhD or equivalent industry experience in atomic physics, engineering, or a closely related field
Expertise in one or more of the following: atom interferometry, optical atomic clocks, frequency standards, atomic magnetometry, and/or atomic sensing
Strong foundation in theoretical atomic physics with an ability to complete first-principles calculations that inform engineering sensitivities and design targets, interrogation methods and signal recovery, optimal control architectures, and processing of sensor outputs
Expertise in optimized detection and signal recovery techniques and related electronics
Expertise in standard data analysis techniques and tools
Experience leading small to mid-size teams to mature early-stage technologies
Prior experience developing product strategies and/or roadmaps
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Prior experience delivering or fielding atom-based sensors or related technologies
Prior experience communicating to stakeholders ranging from junior engineers to senior leadership and external customers
Expertise in opto-mechanical engineering for MIL-Spec and related environments
Expertise in atomic sensor building blocks: precision spectroscopy, Ultra-High Vacuum (UHV) systems, electro-magnetic solutions, atomic sources, laser cooling, ruggedized narrow linewidth lasers and frequency stabilization, optics, fiber optics, and electro-optics and acousto-optics
Expertise in analog, digital, and RF electronics
Prior experience mentoring team members or building team strength within an engineering organization
Prior experience in functional management of engineering or science teams
Prior experience in operation and testing of inertial navigation and sensing technologies
Existing security clearance or willingness to pursue a clearance

Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington or Washington DC is $122,900 - $216,660. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate's final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer. Benefits offered: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Short-Term Disability, Long-Term Disability, 401(k) match, Flexible Spending Accounts, EAP, Education Assistance, Parental Leave, Paid time off, and Holidays.
