ECS is seeking a contractor to provide technical and strategic support with developing and evaluating technology to aid in large whale vessel strike mitigation.
Tasks will include:
- Provide support with coordinating the development and evaluation of technologies for vessel strike mitigation by collaborating with researchers, industry, private sector, USG, and other principal experts as needed.
- Support and provide strategic guidance on programs and projects to meet national priorities. Track and assess program effectiveness and provide recommendations for goals and objectives.
- Write concise documents such as briefs, memoranda, presentations, and technical correspondence that present scientific and technical information.
- Oversee the analysis and interpretation of biological and technical data as well as investigations of new technologies and critical uncertainties, preparation and editing of scientific and technical reports, papers and presentations, and preparation of proposals and projects.
- Coordinate with NOAA staff across Headquarters offices, regional offices, and science centers.
General Description of Benefits
Required Skills
- M.S. in biology, ecology, natural resource management, or other relevant field.
- Documented evidence of education and/or experience in one of the following: environmental sciences, biological sciences (fisheries biology/ecology; marine mammal biology/ecology; sea turtle biology/ecology; and/or marine biology/ecology), ecological risk assessment or environmental impact analysis, scientific project management, environmental regulations and the Federal regulatory process.
- Strong technical writing and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively both individually and collaboratively in a team/group setting.
Desired Skills
- Experience working with the commercial and/or recreational marine vessel industry and an understanding of automated vessel avoidance capabilities.
- Knowledge of current advanced marine technology advancements in passive and/or active acoustic.
- Collaboration and participation with maritime industry groups.
