Project Overview

Our organization is undertaking a strategic initiative to modernize our data warehouse by migrating from SAP BW to Google Cloud Platform's BigQuery. This project aims to enhance scalability, improve performance, and reduce costs. The success of this migration hinges on a complete and accurate analysis of our existing SAP BW environment.

We are seeking experienced SAP BW Analysts to perform a comprehensive analysis of the existing BW logic, map the data lineage from source systems to BW, and create detailed documentation to enable a seamless transition to BigQuery.

Position Overview

The SAP BW Data Analyst & Migration Specialist will be responsible for deep-diving into our existing SAP BW system. Your primary mission is to analyze, reverse-engineer, and document the complete data flow and business logic embedded in the BW objects. You will serve as the subject matter expert, ensuring that all transformation rules, business calculations, and data models are accurately captured for the migration team to rebuild in BigQuery.

Key Responsibilities

· Comprehensive BW Analysis: Conduct a thorough analysis of the existing SAP BW environment, including InfoProviders (InfoCubes, DSOs, MultiProviders, InfoObjects), DataSources, Transformations, DTPs, and Process Chains.
· Source-to-Target Mapping: Analyze and document the complete data flow from source systems (e.g., SAP ECC, S/4HANA, Flat Files) into the SAP BW layers (PSA, DSO, Cube).
· Logic Decomposition: Reverse-engineer and document the complex business logic, including:
· Key Figures and Currency/Unit Conversions.
· Custom Routines, Start Routines, End Routines, and Expert Routines.
· Business Transformation Rules and Formulas.
· Hierarchies and Master Data relationships.
· Documentation: Create clear, detailed, and structured technical documentation, including:
· Data Lineage Diagrams.
· Source-to-Target Mapping Documents.
· Transformation Rule Specifications.
· Entity-Relationship Diagrams for BW models.
· Collaboration: Work closely with the Google Cloud Platform/BigQuery development team to explain the documented logic, clarify requirements, and validate the newly built data models.
· Quality Assurance: Participate in data validation exercises to ensure the data output in BigQuery matches the output from SAP BW for the same business scenarios.

Required Qualifications & Skills

· Must have 4+ years of hands-on experience in SAP BW (BW on HANA or BW/4HANA is a plus).
· Proven experience in at least one end-to-end SAP BW implementation, support, or migration project.
· Deep technical expertise in SAP BW objects: InfoCubes, DSOs, InfoObjects, MultiProviders, DataSources, Transformations, and DTPs.
· Strong ability to analyze and document complex ABAP routines in BW transformations.
· Experience with data modeling and understanding of data warehousing concepts (ETL/ELT, SCD, etc.).
· Proficiency in analyzing data flows from SAP ECC or S/4HANA source systems into BW.
· Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
· Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

· Any prior exposure to a cloud data migration project (especially to Google Cloud Platform BigQuery, Azure Synapse, AWS Redshift, or Snowflake).
· Basic knowledge of SQL is highly desirable for collaborating with the BigQuery team.
· Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform services like BigQuery, Dataflow, or Dataproc.
· Experience with data modeling tools like SAP PowerDesigner or Erwin.
· Knowledge of SAP BEx Queries and the underlying structures that feed them
