SAP Data Migration Lead - ECC to S/4HANA Transformation
Location: Houston, TX - Hybrid (Onsite Monday Thursday)
Duration: 6 to 8 Months
Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly experienced Data Migration Lead to own and drive the end-to-end data migration planning and execution for our SAP ECC to S/4HANA transformation (RISE Private Cloud Brownfield implementation + Initiatives). This role will also coordinate tightly with SAP Security teams to ensure all role-based access controls, segregation of duties (SoD), and audit requirements are addressed as part of the data migration lifecycle.
The candidate will be responsible for developing the data migration blueprint, securing cross-functional approvals, managing compliance with SOX and ITcontrols, and ensuring post-migration audit readiness. This role will play a critical part in ensuring data integrity, security, and regulatory compliance throughout the transformation journey.
Required Qualifications:
- 10+ years of SAP experience, with 5+ years in data migration for large-scale ERP transformations.
- Hands-on experience with SAP ECC and S/4HANA data structures across multiple modules (FI, CO, SD, MM, PP, etc.).
- Demonstrated knowledge and implementation of audit-compliant data migration processes with SOX and ITcontrols.
- Experience coordinating with SAP Security teams for access provisioning, SoD reviews, and migration-related security planning.
- Strong experience with data migration tools like SAP DTV or custom SQL-based solutions (e.g., Snowflake).
Preferred:
- Experience with SAP GRC Access Control, SAP S/4HANA on RISE Private Cloud.
- Prior work in regulated industries (Life Sciences, Financial Services, etc.).
- Familiarity with SAP Activate methodology.
Soft Skills:
- Strong stakeholder management and executive presentation skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to work independently under pressure.
- Deep accountability mindset with strong documentation and organizational skills.
Blueprinting and Planning:
- Lead data migration requirement gathering sessions with functional, technical, and security workstreams.
- Define the Data Migration Blueprint, including scope, tools, retention policies, access controls, and SoD considerations.
- Collaborate with SAP Security and GRC teams to ensure correct access is provisioned for migration tools, users, and staging environments.
- Secure formal approvals from workstream leads, internal/external audit, data owners, and the steering committee.
Execution and Oversight:
- Lead the end-to-end execution of the data migration lifecycle: extraction, cleansing, transformation, validation, load, and reconciliation.
- Design, test, and implement cutover plans with clear ownership, timings, fallback plans, and audit checkpoints.
- Coordinate SAP security role provisioning and de-provisioning related to data migration, ensuring roles are granted only for the duration needed and with proper documentation.
Audit, SOX, and Compliance:
- Create and maintain audit-ready documentation for each data object and migration cycle (mock, dry run, production).
- Implement and validate SOX controls, including change tracking, sign-offs, and access logs across ECC, S/4, and intermediate tools (e.g., Snowflake, SAP DTV).
- Collaborate with auditors to explain processes, demonstrate control effectiveness, and ensure evidence capture meets ITand external audit requirements.
Security & Access Control Coordination:
- Define and validate temporary elevated access for data migration, with traceable logs and approvals.
- Partner with the SAP Security team to ensure role design for data migration aligns with audit expectations.
- Monitor segregation of duties (SoD) conflicts related to data migration and manage exception handling through GRC or appropriate mitigation processes.
Leadership & Collaboration:
- Serve as the single point of accountability for all data migration-related decisions, planning, and execution.
- Engage with business and IT stakeholders, compliance officers, internal and external audit teams, system integrator (SI), and SAP Value Assurance team.
- Provide regular updates to program leadership and highlight risks, mitigation strategies, and status of cutover and data readiness.
