Baer is looking for an SAP Plant Maintenance PM Consultant for a 12+ month Federal remote project.

Title: SAP Plant Maintenance PM Consultant
Location: Remote
Duration: 12+ months
Alignment: W2 or C2C (Vendors Not Permitted)

Project Overview:

Our client is supporting the modernization of critical financial and procurement systems for a major branch of the Department of Defense (DoD), transitioning from SAP ECC to S/4HANA. The transformation follows a fit-to-standard approach to minimize customization and fully leverage S/4HANA capabilities.

Description:

We are seeking an experienced SAP Plant Maintenance (PM) Consultant with deep configuration knowledge across core maintenance processes and enterprise structures. This hands-on consultant will play a critical role in configuring and aligning the end-to-end PM process with S/4HANA standards in support of the client's transformation initiative.

Responsibilities include:

  • Documenting existing Plant Maintenance (PM) and A2R workflows (asset acquisition, installation, preventive/corrective maintenance, and asset retirement/disposal) in both SAP ECC and S/4HANA; identifying process gaps and improvement opportunities.
  • Developing detailed business requirements or user stories for EAM/PM processes, ensuring both functional and technical needs are captured for the A2R workstream.
  • Configuring SAP S/4HANA Plant Maintenance components including equipment master data, functional locations, maintenance orders, notifications, task lists, and preventive maintenance plans, ensuring alignment with client requirements and S/4HANA standards.
  • Translating business requirements into system configurations such as maintenance plans, work order types, asset hierarchies, and notifications.
  • Mapping and analyzing current and future state EAM/PM processes, including asset lifecycle management, work order management, preventive maintenance, and asset retirement.
  • Designing and configuring enterprise structure elements (e.g., plants, maintenance planning plants, work centers, cost centers) that support maintenance and operational reporting requirements.
  • Establishing integration between Plant Maintenance and upstream/downstream modules such as Materials Management (MM), Production Planning (PP), Controlling (CO), and Project Systems (PS), with attention to data flow and compliance.
  • Supporting master data governance activities including the design and validation of PM master data elements (e.g., equipment, functional locations, bill of materials, maintenance task lists).
  • Supporting functional design for maintenance strategies, order types, settlement rules, and cost tracking in line with federal asset management and operational practices.
  • Assisting with the development of standard operating procedures and process documentation for PM functions.
  • Engaging in hands-on prototyping and testing to validate system configurations and ensure compliance with audit, operational readiness, and asset lifecycle requirements.
  • Collaborating with functional leads and stakeholders to define key performance indicators (KPIs), reporting needs, and maintenance control mechanisms tied to PM processes.

Requirements:

  • 9+ years of hands-on experience configuring SAP Plant Maintenance (PM) components in ECC and S/4HANA environments.
  • Deep knowledge of S/4HANA PM capabilities, with direct experience in Asset-to-Retire (A2R) processes including asset acquisition, maintenance, and retirement.
  • Department of Defense (DoD), Federal Public Sector, or government regulated industry experience (i.e.: Aerospace & Defense) required. Army or Navy experience is preferred.
  • Experience documenting business requirements, user stories, and translating them into functional/technical solutions within PM and A2R workstreams.
  • Interim or Active Secret Clearance Required
