Job Description:

Apex Systems is looking for a Senior SDET to join one of our local clients. If interested, please apply!

Location: Charlotte, NC -> 3 days on site

Duration: 6 month, contract to hire

Job Description

Seeking a Senior SDET (Software Development Engineer in Test) to support a strategic initiative to realign testing practices and scale coverage across multiple workstreams. The client is currently operating with half the necessary headcount, and this hire will be instrumental in building a robust automation layer that integrates seamlessly into CI/CD pipelines.

You'll work closely with the QA Architect to modernize the testing strategy, reduce manual bottlenecks, and proactively identify defects at the code level. This is a hands-on, senior-level role for someone who can think like a developer and act like a quality engineer.

Must Have
  • 5+ years of experience in software development or SDET roles
  • Strong coding background in one or more: Java, C#, .NET, JavaScript, TypeScript
  • Proven experience writing automation tests that integrate with CI/CD pipelines
  • Deep understanding of REST API testing and validation
  • Experience with Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, or similar frameworks
  • Fintech/Financial services industry experience (required)
  • Solid database testing experience (SQL, PostgreSQL)
  • Ability to understand business logic (e.g., ledger validation) and translate into test cases
  • Comfortable working under pressure and adapting across languages and tech stacks

Nice to Have
  • Experience with Golang applications
  • Familiarity with Gherkin/BDD frameworks
  • Exposure to QTP or legacy testing tools
  • Unit testing expertise and ability to extend coverage beyond base layers
  • Experience with test data management and environment stability strategies

Day-to-Day Responsibilities
  • Take ownership of incoming tickets and proactively define test strategy
  • Collaborate with developers to understand feature functionality and identify breakpoints
  • Build and maintain automation tests that mimic user flows and exploratory scenarios
  • Troubleshoot and stabilize flaky tests caused by environment changes
  • Develop mid-layer tests that provide fast feedback in CI/CD pipelines
  • Align testing tools and frameworks to the application stack (e.g., Selenium for Java, Playwright for JS)
  • Act as a technical QA partner to developers, speaking fluently at the code level

Soft Skill Fit
  • Highly proactive and independent - doesn't wait for direction to test
  • Strong communicator who can challenge developers constructively
  • Business-savvy mindset - understands the "why" behind the test
  • Organized and able to align with multiple workstreams
  • Collaborative team player who thrives in fast-paced, high-pressure environments
  • Local presence preferred - strong emphasis on quality and cultural fit
