We help the world run better

At SAP, we enable you to bring out your best. Our company culture is focused on collaboration and a shared passion to help the world run better. How? We focus every day on building the foundation for tomorrow and creating a workplace that embraces differences, values flexibility, and is aligned to our purpose-driven and future-focused work. We offer a highly collaborative, caring team environment with a strong focus on learning and development, recognition for your individual contributions, and a variety of benefit options for you to choose from.

What you'll do:

As Senior Backend Engineer for our San Francisco-based Product Intelligence team, you will work closely with the product owner, designer and engineering team to shape the design and implementation strategies. Your responsibilities cover the entire development process from refining user stories, participating in scrum ceremonies, mentoring folks on the team, and naturally, writing and deploying enterprise-grade production code.

The backend services are written in Java, Kotlin, and Rust, but this role is to develop a new Python-based backend service. While knowledge of the other languages will be helpful, the focus for this position is to build a REST/JSON-based Python Service, including API and database schema design, which processes large scale data and uses AI/ML to analyze enterprise process data.

In this role, you will join a cross-functional team that values trust, respect, and diversity.

We are looking for people who share our passion for creating products. To thrive in this role, you are someone who appreciates close collaboration, open communication, and feedback.

Description
Participate in the entire cycle of product development, from first ideas and brainstorming sessions to continuously delivering improvements based on customer data and feedback
Enhancements of existing applications as well as the inception of new microservices
Collaborate with Principal Engineers and other Lead Engineers to define long-term technical strategies in accordance with business needs
You will mentor less-experienced peers and be mentored by more-experienced peers
Act as functional lead for members of the Process Intelligence team by providing technical feedback, guidance, and mentoring

What you'll bring:
Expert experience building secure web applications with Java, Python and PostgreSQL (Kotlin a plus)
Experience with AI/ML technologies and methodologies, specifically text analysis and LLMs a plus.
Experience with DevOps tools and approaches
Hands-on experience running production workloads on Kubernetes and container runtimes
General understanding of both SaaS & On-Premise enterprise software systems like SAP
Testing, debugging, and analysis of log files
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience preferably in enterprise software companies
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or the equivalent through a combination of education and related work experience
Strong analytical thinker who is focused on problem solving
A team player who can work in an international team.
Demonstrable leadership experience within an engineering environment.
Experience with complex and data intensive applications (ideally within the BPM / Workflow domain)
The ability to challenge existing, as well as defining new, architectural standards with senior stakeholders
